JOURNEY 2 SURVIVAL ;part 1
#WritcoStoryPrompt78
Like hitting a rock with a hammer, life hits us hard sometimes.Just like anyone who's has ambition towards their dreams being in school is always a good thing to do and as they say,and as it's said a child's greatest inheritance is access to education.
Having been lucky to be born in a family is one thing someone doesn't chose but is a dream for many people, you have your siblings and live happily. Everything was fine and as a kid what else can I worry about if I have this, food shelter and clothing. The one thing I could not understand as a child is the challenges my parents went through to provide even a cup of tea.
I wasn't a good kid if character was to be involved, but still I was blind to why I was always punished, to me throwing stones on people and vehicles was fun,I mean it wasn't a big deal, but growing up I started understanding those flaws within me and they made me sad,how people will always come to report incident after another, Mom must have gotten tired and it was time to give her peace of mind and solace.
By the time I was in high school I had really improved on my behaviour, it's not like I could wake up one day and say am now a good boy. Though I was born in a happy family we were in the middle class not very poor nor rich.
And being in such a family the greatest thing a parent want for their children is for them to work hard and pass their exams,But having passion for other things beside education it meant trouble with them. I wanted to do art not to become a doctor,I wanted to play soccer not to be in office and that's when life started to hammer.
I hated it that I couldn't come to agreement with them, I knew what was good for me but they knew more and finally they had to win, living under their wings meant to humble before them.I had to drop drop my passion and do what was the best thing;Education, maybe they would have just supported me in both fields and we could balance.
Then a crisis occurred when my father lost his job,now it was mom to do the rest and having to provide fee for three students was hard. I had to travel to the village and continue with my studies, now staying with a sick grandmother .
Thank goodness granny had an employee to help where needed, One day I came back home after being sent back to get my fee balance for the term, I had to call my parents and it was hard. Mom did her best to get a little so that I could go back to School. The same evening as I went to fetch water on coming back I found my bag open.
Fear took over,I was afraid that whatever I was thinking had not happened, but it did, our helper had stolen the money sent for fee and escaped together with my phone and other valuable items he came across, it was a double tragedy and a blow.
How was I to tell mom about this seeing how she struggled, granny went down by just hearing this, she was diabetic and now diagnosed with blood pressure. That night I went to the river to cool down. Most people feared to go there at night and if they did they went in groups.
I layed facing up looking at the stars how beautiful the sky was, I was completely lost in the midst that I forgot of my problems until I felt something cold in my back. All the while water level had been increasing without my knowledge. I was soaked in water as I was surrounded by water.
I had to swim out of water to save myself and that's when I discovered that the water came along with sand, from the community we used to extract sand as a source of employment but that was only during the rainy seasons. I had to run back home pick a spade and came back ,through the night the conditions was tough, it was cold but I felt energy emitting from my body giving me strength and warmth as I work tirelessly till morning.
At about six o'clock morning I went back home drained but went about with my schedule, it was on Friday having not returned to school also having not told my parents what had happened, I was glad since even granny chose to be silent.
At about midday I heard a truck coming and went to the river searching for sand, by that time I was the only one with sand and I did not want to sell until I had extracted enough, seating with granny trying to figure out what to do ,we saw three men coming towards us . I knew who they were and what they wanted but I wasn't going to give in,I had a target.
They wanted the sand, but refused after insisting for a while granny told me to allow them take it that we'll find a way to get money to add to what they will give. I walked with them down the river, thy were going to give out three quarter the actual amount but I was certain that the truck will be full.
The truck carries 14tons and as they filled the truck they realised that the sand was more than their expectation and finally the truck was full.I new miracle happens but never occurred it would come in such a state, now I had school fees for the term but there was more to come ,that's when I realised that I was starting my journey of miseries......
