Unfathomable Attachment (Part 2)
As I open my eyes I saw the ghost guy sitting beside me. I get up freaking out. I am about to run – “Wait! Please don’t be afraid. I won’t harm you.” Not being able to breathe properly, I turn to look at him.
He smiles as he takes steps to me. “Stop! You – you can just talk from there.” I demand, and he does. “What do you want from me?” Before he could answer my question, “oh! I won’t help you take revenge. I’m not interested in other people’s lives.” He gives me a weird look before he lets loose of a loud guffaw.
“I’m not that evil, you silly.” I now realize, this guy doesn’t look bad. He is quiet handsome with thick brows and pointed nose. “Aw! Are you just curious why a ghost like me can be this good-looking?” He holds his chin to show off. “Yeah. I am.” He looks at me and awkwardly standing upright. “I didn’t expect you to admit it.” It is him who looks surprised.
“So, what do you want from me?” He rubs his hair. “Nothing much. May be just asking you to be my friend. I haven’t talked to people for 30 years.” So this guy died thirty years ago? “Okay. Then can I ask you how did you die?” I’m a straight forward person. I don’t need to make an introduction about everything I say. “I don’t remember.”
Silence comes between us. “Eh! It’s almost nightfall, aren’t you going home?” I reach my shorts’ pockets to find my phone. “Here, you must be looking for this.” He hands me my phone. This thing can’t be explained. Why can a ghost take a hold of my phone?
“Oh! I just learnt that there are few things I can touch, or hold.” My lips curve up in amazement. “Then, I better go.” I point at the vines that cover the pathway. He nods. “Will you come here again tomorrow?” I think for a moment – “sure. Do you want me to bring you something?” I assume he wants to see something. “I want a cassette, and Presley’s songs. I haven’t listened to music for a really long time.” A cassette, really? Well, I understand.
“Then, I’ll see you again tomorrow.” I wave goodbye, and walk back to the same route I took earlier. I am not bad at direction – I can read maps, and compass.
My stomach growls. I didn’t take my lunch, and I only had a sandwich in my breakfast.
I hurriedly open the old, rusty, mini gate. “Hera! Where have you been? I was looking for you!” Ma Jen – our house keeper – asks as she sees me. “I just went for a walk. I’ll be missing natures for sure.” She looks at me sadly. I’m sure she also doesn’t want me to go. I hug her. “Ma, I’m hungry.”
