Persistence Ch3
Chapter 3

I was lying on the bed, when reality slapped hard on my face. I looked around finding most of the people in groups but some of them were alone too, crying and anxious , just like me. Before I could realise a group of people came up to me. A girl with brown hair in the group asked "what's your name?" I replied to her words giving all of them a quick glance, "I am Muktih Dwivedi and what about you all?"
"Jyotsna Chauhan."
"Sakshi"
"Vaibhav Singhania"
"Rudra"
I nodded on their introductions clearly knowing that I will forget their names in a few minutes. It was quite a solemn atmosphere between us because of the scene we witnessed few hours ago. But I tried to strike a conversation
"So do you all have any idea why we are here?"
"Don't know" a quick reply from Sakshi arrived.
"I was in a restaurant with my family and when I went to the washroom, after that I only remembered , waking up here" Vaibhav said sharing his experience
"It is horrible, I don't want to be here, why is this happening?" Jyotsna cried as Sakshi calmed her down.
"It's the same for all of us, please don't panic cause we are also not strong enough to hold back our feelings" I said to Jyotsna who seemed to calm down a bit.
"Let's change this topic and talk about something that might be useful, did you all notice how these guys who are like security are wearing yellow coloured masks and those who served us food they were wearing blue"
Vaibhav said grabbing our attention.
"Right! But that man, Mr.B , was in normal attire and what purpose was he talking about?"
Sakshi asked adding her observation to the points.
"That boy , why was he killed?" Jyotsna almost cried , making us shiver with fear.
"He had a phone , he tried to call the police, what do you expect?" Rudra said nonchalantly.
"But how did they even hack into a public helpline number?" I asked which Rudra replied,
"Well it's 2024, technology is much more sophisticated than we think".

Just then the lights were turned off and small light bulbs were turned on. Announcements were made , telling us about the rules and regulations."Point no.1—Lights will be turned on and off according to the sunrise and sunset"
"Point no.2—Anyone with any device will be severely punished and Point no.3— We expect all of you to follow the given instructions."
So that means it is already sunset , I wondered while everyone left for their assigned bed. I lied again revisiting today's memories.

"Wake up Muktih"
"How long you are going to sleep , it's already 8 are you planning to skip today's lectures as well"
This voice I have heard somewhere, wait! Ma , it's mumma's voice , I opened my eyes in an instance finding myself in my room.
"Mumma?" I said with a confused tone with a frown on my face noticed by my mother
"Why are you looking like a confused monkey?Did you have a nightmare?"
Was that a nightmare? No it can't be ,it was too vivid
"I don't know, I think it was a nightmare, it was too vivid ma , I can't tell you, I am scared"
Without realising heavy tears left my eyes which were consoled by my mother's hug.
*It happens dear, don't worry , you told me to wake you up today because you have an important lecture. Go freshen up, I am preparing tea and uttapam for breakfast*

Mother left the room but not the confusion in me , what just happened? I was utterly shocked and horrified, I am pretty sure that it wasn't a dream I have felt those cold drops of blood and those people I remember their name, sakshi, vaibhav and that Mr.B. We can't create new faces in our dream but I have never seen those people. I got ready for college, not quite able to shake off anxiety in me.
