CORRUPTED PURITY part one
CORRUPTED PURITY
Dina hovered over the tormented sleeping form of a man as he struggled with another nightmare filled with his life's regrets.
Her skin emitted a glow of pure light as the white feathers of her wings folded around the man. As she did so she absorbed his suffering and filled him with hope and joy.
In the morning he would awake, praising the Lords name and would begin his life anew.
Dina had done this for people for hundreds of thousands of years and the burden of feeling the pain of countless souls, weighed heavily and was taking it's toll. She cried holy tears as she passed through the ceiling, into the sky.
"Why did all these people have to suffer like this in the first place?" she asked herself. "What was the point of it all"? Dina wished she could speak to God so he could explain all this. But her position was too lowly. She would never get the chance. Maybe some of her friends in higher places would know.
A few days later a report was made to Angelic resources about Dina asking divisive questions about the intentions of God. She was called in to the office that very day.
"You see Dina, we can't have our angels getting confused by being made to think about things. There's a system. And that system only works if people don't ask questions. Questions make people think. And thinking makes people question all the more. It's a vicious cycle that could unravel everything. Do you understand"?
"But... that's just it. I want to understand."
"You don't get to understand! No but's. No questions. No thinking. Can you manage that?"
"Isn't that a question?"
"God has granted me the power to ask questions. You do not have that privilege. Can you follow these instructions or not"?
Dina squirmed with discomfort.
"Well"?
"I don't think I can".
The Head of Angelic Resources stood up, his face turning crimson with rage. He pointed straight at Dina and shouted, "THEN .. YOU.. SHALL.. FALL"!!
The Heavens opened beneath Dina's feet. She tried to flap her wings but they had miraculously been clipped. She tumbled through the clouds faster and faster. Occasionally she had glimpses of the snow covered ground below her. Then there was only pain, cold and darkness.
Hours later Dina drifted back into consciousness, her teeth chattering, her body screaming in agony with every shiver.
Stood over her was a man, smiling curiously. For a split second his eyes seemed to be completely black and then they were normal and piercing blue.
"What do we have here?" his smile widened with mischief.
"Who are you?" Dina asked.
"My name is Jakuth. And you are"?
"I'm Dina".
"Come with me, Dina. We can have all sorts of fun"!
Jakuth was wearing a long black fur coat. He took it off. "Fold up your wings and put this on".
"Thank you. But won't you get cold"?
"It doesn't matter. This isn't my body".
"It's not your body"?
"Nope. I'm just borrowing it".
"How can you borrow a body"?
"I possessed it. I'm a demon".
"What's a demon?"
"What's a demon? Wow! They don't tell you anything up there do they"?
Dina's tone of voice became bitter. "No. They don't".
Jakuths eyebrow raised. "They kicked you out of Heaven because you were curious, didn't they?"
Dina's face flushed and twisted into a grimace. "Yes".
"Curiosity dropped the angel," Jakuth smirked.
"How can you be so cruel? This isn't funny!"
"What do you expect. I'm a demon".
"I don't know what to expect! I don't know what a demon is! I don't know anything! They wouldn't tell me anything"! Dina's frustration turned into sobbing.
Jukuth wrapped his coat around her, hiding her wings. "So much for ignorance is bliss. Come on, my little angel. I'll tell you anything you want to know. I did have some revenge business I had to attend to, but I think you'll be a nice side project to keep me entertained before I start getting serious".

John and Zack's phones pinged at the same time.
They were playing baseball in their parents garden with their younger brother Kevin.
"Sorry, Kevin. Duty calls".
John checked his phone. The message showed a picture of a man with piercing blue eyes. Beneath the photo it said: Suspected possession. Investigate immediately. There was also an address where the man could be found.
"We have a stake out. Let's go, Zack".
They both jumped into John's black Ford Ranger Raptor pick up truck and sped out the icy driveway.
John remembered the day when he'd answered his door to two men in suits flashing unusual silver badges at him. They knew about the incident at The Canadian Saints Church Camp. Kevin had been possessed by a demon and had wreaked havoc. Several children were seriously injured and one man brutally murdered.
The men in the suits worked for the Supernatural Bureau of Investigation. They had interviewed the children at the camp after the incident and the reports had led them to John's door. They were impressed how John and Zack had worked as a team to stop the demon. They wanted to recruit them.
"We're not getting involved in that shit, again," was John's response.
The men in suits had smiled then told them how good the pay was. It was a life changing amount.
"I'll talk to Zack," John had replied.
The rest is history. They had now been SBI agents for two years.

An anxious looking angel stood before the Head of Angelic Resources.
"We have a serious problem, sir"!
"What problem"?
"It's Dina".
The Head sighed. "I've solved that problem. What more do you want from me"?
"It's not that, sir. She's found herself in some rather bad company".
"Well, that's humans for you".
"No, no. Not human... Demon."
"WHAT"!!
"Not just any demon either, sir. It's Jakuth".
"Heaven forbid"!
"What shall we do, sir"?
"We must summon a meeting with the Afterlife Administration. Tell them it is of the utmost urgency ".

"Jakuth, you say"?
"Yes, Head Reaper".
"Quite the troublemaker. Dangerous! Caused quite a stir a couple of years ago, I recall. Why have you come to me? Isn't this Celestial business"?
"Yes. But as you say, Jakuth is dangerous. Angel's are peaceful beings."
"And we're not"?
"I mean no offence, of course, Head Reaper, but you do deal in death".
"We don't cause their deaths. We just collect the souls and deliver them to their destination. We engage in very little violence and that is between ourselves, not against humans. As for taking on demons; well; we're certainly not qualified for that".
"Then you won't help us"?
"Hmm. There might be someone who could. Someone who didn't truly get their just deserts. I believe this would be a more fitting punishment for him. Leave it to me".
"Thank you, Head Reaper. I am hugely grateful "!
