Survival
#WritcoStoryPrompt27
A flock of geese flying high up against the blue sky, squawking away in familiar harmony, roused me into that state of consciousness that lingers just before awakening from a restless slumber. The harsh slap of salty, surf laden water struck me with a ferocity that had me gasping into complete consciousness. My shoulders and arms felt sore, almost as if they didn’t belong to me anymore. How could they when I had spent more than forty eight hours clinging on a piece of driftwood in the middle of the bloody ocean!...

I could feel myself slipping in and out of consciousness, my heart pounding with fear for the unknown sea creatures which lurked beneath me. All I could think of at this moment was my Mother, two younger siblings and Lisa-Ann. Lisa my friend who had decided to join me on the cruise trip. I begin to weep with dried up tears, there had been none left as dehydration had took its affect on me, my continuous doubts of survival kept the adrenaline pumping through my veins. I couldn't hold out much longer, anytime soon I could slip into a coma or Pneumonia or hyperthermia might take me as it's victim.

Is it my mind creating hallucinations or do I hear a helicopter? The sound of it's propellers thud into my ear canals, my head pounds due to its mechanical noise.
I attempt to raise my arms with the little strength I have left, I try crying out for help, but my vocals fail to project the sound I was hoping for instead a dry cough escapes my mouth. I continue to keep my hands in the air, unfortunately the Helicopter pilot could not see me from the height he was flying above the ocean, which had been approximately 18000 ft.
The pilot flew away and as the Helicopter flew off I began to lose hope, I wanted to sink to the bottom of the ocean and not feel any pain or suffocation. I continued to float on the piece of boat debris, I woke up to a sharp pain against my back and found myself against shore rocks, my eyes widened in suprise. I made it to land, I had floated to a small island, I climbed over the rocks and crawled over to land and layed on my back to stare at the starry night sky, I cried then laughed with relief.
