A Dream That Can't Be Forgotten ( Part 1)
‘Mom…, Dad…, I hate you.’
It was the last sentence that was heard from Thomas; a small boy of 12-year-old before he slammed the door of his room shut and locked it from inside. Harsh tears rolled down his face in haste. He was very upset at his parents as they had denied him permission to go over to his friend’s house for a sleepover. It all started during the school. His friends had been discussing about a fun-filled sleepover at one of his friends Nathan’s house the next day and had invited him. Initially, he had been very excited with the proposal. But then he remembered how his parents were and how they had restricted many of his activities telling him that it was for his safety. They only allowed him for something if they were present there to watch over him. For him, even the process of attending public school had been very difficult and had taken many efforts by him and other people to convince them to allow him. Though, he knew that they would deny him, he still decided to give it a try. He thought, may be, they would have a change of mind and allow him like they did for his school. But boy, he was absolutely wrong, his father didn’t only deny him and also started lecturing him about how he should be grateful about him getting allowed to go to public school and should stop asking for things that he was clearly aware of being not allowed to do. After hearing his parents, he felt that he had enough of their rules and regulations. He couldn’t understand why his parents were not like others parents, why they couldn’t love him or allow him to do things that other kids had permission to do. He was hurt by their actions. He wished that he didn’t have parents who nagged at him all the time. He came to a conclusion that they didn’t love him. And with spite, he thought that he hated them too and hoped that he didn’t have parents. Suddenly, he was startled from his thoughts when a soft knock was heard from his door. He didn’t bother to answer. He kept quiet and covered his head with his hands and knees. Then, another knock was heard and now, he could hear his mother softly speaking, ’Honey! Your father didn’t mean to be so harsh on you. He is regretting it now. He is sorry, dear.’ Then, he heard his father’s voice, ’I am sorry. I didn’t mean to become so angry, son. I am doing this all for your good and safety. You should try to understand son.’

He fumed hearing his father’s words. How many times had they told him this? For his good…. His good!! Why did they have to lie to him always? He couldn’t even remember how many times he had asked about their over-protectiveness. But the answer he would receive is that he was a small child and wouldn’t understand. Then he would be dismissed. So, now why should he try to understand? He wouldn’t this time. He had enough of their excuses. He just wasn’t going to listen this time. Another knock brought him out of his angry thoughts. They were asking him to reply to them and open the door. But he disobeyed them. He didn’t reply nor did he get up from the floor to open the door. For some time, he heard his parents requesting him to open the door or talk to them and then they left him alone to give him time. Now, he felt a bit more at peace after he stopped hearing their insistent requests. But he knew that he won’t be forgiving them this time. He stayed in his room until afternoon had rolled down and evening came. After, a few hours it would be dinner time. But he was determined not to go out of his room today. He had been tired after his school hours and after all the arguing and crying, he had done today he felt fatigued. His eyes started drooping and he climbed onto his bed feeling that any moment he would fall asleep. As, soon as his head touched the pillow, sleep overtook him and snatched him to the dream world.
