dreams
#WritcoStoryPrompt2
A wet leaf fell on her shoulder making her jump in fear. Startled she shifted from her hiding place behind the bush in the school premises.
Roshni, an 8 year old who dreamed only about studying hard enough so that one day she could fly that aeroplane which always flew over her village sky. Her friends who went to school had told her that, you need to study hard to reach the sky and fly the aeroplane.
Roshni's father was a farmer, he worked in the zamindars field on daily wages. Her mother also worked at the zamindars house, she did some odd jobs there. Both hardly earned enough to have a living , so there was no way Roshni could go to school. Money was not the only hurdle, she had to look after her old grandma when her parents were out. She took care of the two hens and the goat too, and even went to deliver goats milk in the nearby houses.
But Roshni had the dedication in her and she always finished all her work before the school bell rang and keeping the tea and roti in front of her grandma, she would run to the village school to hear whatever little she could by standing behind the bushes there.
Sometimes the rain, sometimes the scorching heat and sometimes the bone chilling morning wind would make it even tougher for Roshni to stand there, but none of them were stronger than her willpower. She had to touch the sky. She had to fly that aeroplane.
It had rained throughout night and when Roshni was standing in her favorite spot behind the bushes, a wet leaf fell on her shoulder and she jumped in fear and fell in the puddle right next to her with a splash. The splashing sound disturbed the class and all the students came running out. Behind them came the teacher, who also happened to be the principal of the school. Mr. Narang, a young dynamic gentleman who left his promising career in the city and came to his ancestral village to teach the children there.
Mr. Narang hurriedly came up to Roshni, helped her to get up and took her to the nearby hand pump, so that she could clean the mud from the puddle off. When she was done, Mr. Narang asked her who she was and what she was doing behind the bushes. With a trembling voice Roshni told him her dream. Mr. Narang hugged her tight, for the first time in the 2 years he had spent in the school there was a kid who wanted to study, who wanted to fly, who had a dream.
Mr. Narang's dream met Roshni's and there was no looking back.
