Section 377 and the aftermath!
Dear readers, in the previous story I have already mentioned that being a news reporter, I have to go through many unthinkable incidents.. Today, I am going to share with you a painful yet inspirational story of an woman who fought against every odds.. So without wasting your time anymore, let's hear from her own mouth..'hello everyone, myself Arunima Roy,I am a software engineer, currently working at a company in Bangalore..' Then she shared her story with me, I am writing her story in first person..She said, I am from a small town of West Bengal. At the age of six, my doctor said my parents that I am homosexual.. They were shocked and thought of it as a disease and asked doctor for a cure!! Doctor said that currently 'shock therapy' is the only cure of it!! I have a little brother who said me later I was unconscious for three days, during this time my mother beated me and cursed me that why she gave birth to me, why I am not 'NORMAL'?? My parents tried many things to make me 'normal' but failed.. Being frustrated, they arranged my marriage at my age of fourteen!! When, I got into the house, I heard my mother in-law was saying,' this girl likes girls only huh! Give me three days, when men will have sex with her, she will forget the girls!!' I won't lie to you, my husband was nice to me at our first night, but after that day, instead of my husband,my father in-law came to 'sleep' with me!! Next day, my husband's friends, after that my father in law's friends came to 'sleep' with me!! And you know it was my mother in-law's order to them so I could forget about girls!! You know the irony, I became pregnant and I decided to kept the child.. when I turned 18,I left the house with my son chintu cause I couldn't bear how everyone taunted and harrassed me every single day for being a lesbian.. I went to my uncle's house in kolkata and I am thankful that he let me stay there..Here, I started to study, my aunt looked after my son and though my result wasn't great still I got a job at a small private company as a software engineer.. Here, I met Sunita, it was love at first sight..I was very shy and I am thankful to her that she proposed me first!! I was really afraid so, I said to her that nobody will accept our relationship..Do you know what she said to me?? She said, we don't need anyone,we are enough for us..But the problem started when, my uncle said to me that they have no problems but their neighbours were not seeing us in a good eye..They even threatened my uncle that if we stay there, they will have to leave from there!! I can't blame them, they are the reason I am here today.. I moved with Chintu in bangalore.. One day, suddenly Sunita came and gave me a ring and asked me that she wanted to be my son's mother..I was really happy that I couldn't say anything then..Then Arunima showed me her engagement ring, she was blushing..But, there were several problems for us,we were living together but marrying same sex wasn't legalised back then.. We have to move different places cause no landlord was ready to lend us flat!! We were so frustrated, then we took home loan and bought a 2 bhk flat. We were living in together for almost two years and finally after september, 2018 we both went to the registry office and officially get married.. After that section 377 was declared unconstitutional, atleast we haven't faced official harassment anymore.. Although some people still taunt her and me and ask me how did we have a son!! But I don't really care now cause I have her now..I was seeing Sunita is smiling at her holding her hands.. They aren't different than us, they have the same feelings as us.. Instead of tagging them by saying gay or lesbian, treat them as you treat others..They don't need your pity, they just want you to treat them equally.. Abolishing the section 377 is not a matter of joy for them only, it's the victory of the humanity..
soo, if you are reading this long, let me know your thoughts in the comments,I would love to know your perspectives on this topic.. #realwriting
