Monster - 2016 version - Ch 1-3/29
-"The Lonly Emotion"-
-What would happen if we felt nothing? Feeding off others' emotions just to know what it means to feel? Just to know what it means to live? Would you be willing to risk it? Then what would happen if a creature came to you promising emotion? Would you trust it?-
Annie was 10 when she realized how different she was. She had no emotions. It would've upset her, that is, if she could be upset. Although pretending to have a normal life, Annie went to school like all other normal people. Annie had a hard time coping. What made it hard was that she was always surrounded by other emotions, and she fed off emotions to feel. However, she could not control which emotion she felt. Of course, that didn't help one bit.
And that's all she wanted to do, to feel. Feel real emotions and not just others'. She just didn't know how. She didn't want to live in stress of searching for one single emotion. Then with nothing else to do, she taught herself how to pretend. Pretend she had emotion, pretend she was fine. Pretend everything. She knew that if she had at least one emotion, it'd be fear. Fear of the day, of what could happen. Fear of the thought that she might never be normal and she'd just have to live with it.
She didn't want to live in the lie of the world, and to think, not even her parents knew. Not even her parents knew of her emotionless mind, she never told them. She never wanted to.
-"The School Monsters"-
Annie's least favorite thing about school, the bullies, or as she called them "school monsters". They teased her, punched her, and on not so rare occasions, threaten her. As if the stress of multiple emotions didn't already bring harm to Annie, the bullies even called her names to fit what they thought was just her personality, saying "ha! some personality you have, Stresser!". A word not even close to being clever and then they called her dumb. Blindly, Annie would try throwing a punch as well, rarely hitting them.
"Missed me little girl!" they would mock, "are you going to a corner to cry over the stress we're putting on you?". Then, they just left at the bell with a look reminding her that they aren't finished.
-"What’s the Time, Monster?"-
Annie was ready for bed after what seemed like a year. Despite it only have been a day, to Annie every day is a year, every month is 30 years. Everything seemed slow.
Bed time I guess, why don't they come say good night for once? Annie thought. Out of the corner of her eye she saw something, a shadow, move. She didn't pay much attention to it though. Around 11:47 pm she heard something. She woke up and looked around, then she saw a figure.
"Who..who are you?" She asked.
"I am what can make you normal" the figure replied, "you will feel what you have always wanted to feel, know what you have always wanted to know. I will guide you on when, where, and what to feel"
Annie was surprised, for some reason. She could feel surprise. "How can I-?"
"As I said, and I won't only help with your emotions but with other things you'll need help with." the creature replied with a gentle, but scratchy voice.
"What should I call you by if you're not around?" Annie questioned.
It laughed, "You may call me by the name of Monster" it said, "now rest up, you have a full day tomorrow. A long day"
Throughout the night, Annie was rather restless. By morning, she was fast asleep. It was quiet, at least until a voice broke through yelling.
"ANNIE! ANNIE! WAKE UP ANNIE!! YOU'RE LATE!!"
"Monster? What's the time, Monster?" Annie woke up with a yawn. After rubbing her eyes she checked her clock, "7:38?! I was supposed to be awake by 7:00 am!" Annie exclaimed with fright, "No, no, no! I can't be late!" she said while jumping out of bed to get ready. Her bus was almost there so she had to grab breakfast to go. As for her outfit, she just grabbed a yellow shirt, black pants and put her hair up in a messy bun. After grabbing some toast and her lunch she raced out to the bus stop to wait.
"Right on time, bravo Annie." Monster quoted.
