Love, Divorce and Everything else
Chapter 26: The reason

Ryan left the hospital room and walked towards Cynthia. He told her he had filed the case today to get Emma back. The Child Protective Services case does not hold any water, so don't worry. Emma will be back with us in no time. Cynthia was worried, looked sad, and did not react or look at Ryan. So he repeated, 'Don't worry. Please, everything will be okay.' Cynthia replied, 'I'm sure, Ryan, but in the meantime, I don't know how I will face my own daughter. She deserves to be happy, and it's one thing after another. Yesterday she was so happy when you two spoke, and look at her today. If I ever meet that Margaret again, I swear I don't know what I will do to her. I'm too old and too tired of this, but my daughter has her whole life ahead of her. She can't move forward unless these people let go of her. Tell me, Ryan, how long will this take to go away? I want you two to be together more than ever. Tell me, son, how long will it take now.' Ryan was sad and feeling really bad.
He responded that he is trying everything to get Emma back. He would try everything to fight back Margaret and Jack and get everything resolved. You won't believe Jack showed up at my house yesterday night, threatening me to stay away and saying things about Myra. Can you believe it? Cynthia, surprised, asked Ryan, 'What? He came to your house after everything? That man is a good example of a bad husband and a really bad person. First, he brainwashed our daughter against us and convinced her to marry him secretly. Then he was practically living off her income. Even though she was the breadwinner and loved him dearly, he abused her. Then he left her in the instructions of her mother and married another woman. Now he is back again; he wants to break her. He wanted drama that she wouldn't leave him but rather go back to him and suffer for the rest of her life, which my daughter did not do; she found another reason to live - Emma. She wanted to protect her from that man and his family, so she kept her a secret. But that Albert, he destroyed everything. We were fine; we didn't need his money. Why did he write everything to my daughter? Now it's like a rope around my daughter and granddaughters' necks, by which these people are pulling them and trying to tie them down.

Ryan: I understand Cynthia. Even Jack said, 'Why would Albert write his property to Myra?' That question had been bothering me, too. Why would he?

Cynthia: I don't know, son. Maybe he saw right through his greedy relatives - his brother, his sister-in-law, and their son. After all, they had been drooling all over him for ages, trying to pretend to be good people while they were literally living off Albert. Myra had told me; she told me a long time ago that Margret mistreated him because we are simple people and made just enough money and saved mostly for our only child's future. Unfortunately, all of that was spent trying to meet their demands. He would abuse my daughter for money. We would give her the money until we had none, just our pensions. But yes, Myra overheard them once saying and praying for Albert to die so they can take over his business, his assets, and his bank accounts. You know the house and the business Jack's parents have are still in Albert's name, so they couldn't afford displeasing him. It would mean they would lose everything. And imagine that Margaret made fun of us, called us simpletons and poor. At least we worked hard to have whatever we did, unlike them. Ryan: Yeah, I understand, Cynthia. They were the same to me. I was never allowed in front of Albert; they would make me hide in the house and not make a noise, as if I didn't exist. Maybe they didn't tell him about me, considering he was paying for everything and I would have just been another burden and another mouth to feed, right? Yet, if that was the case, why would he give everything to Myra, who was considered an outsider? Cynthia: I really have no idea. All I know is that the old man Albert just made everything difficult for us and we will have to revisit hell to fight these people again. Well, if he would have left everything to Myra, I am sure it would have been easier. She would have given it all back. But he had to complicate things and now they are after our Emma. Ryan: I can understand, Cynthia, but I am on it and I have a good feeling that we have a solid case. I will not let them win at any cost. I can assure you that. They have upset Myra again, and she doesn't wish to see my face anymore, and that just breaks my heart. I wish I could have told her I will do everything in my power. Cynthia: Don't worry, Ryan. Everything will be okay. She just felt overwhelmed with those notices. She didn't expect them, so don't worry. She will calm down soon, and when she does, I will talk to her.Give her some time to process all this, and then I am sure she will be okay. I really appreciate you standing by her side during these difficult times, and our family appreciates it. I wish you were the one she had met instead of Jack. I'm sure Myra would have been the happiest person. Ryan: Trust me, I am the lucky guy to have the pleasure of being in your daughter's life, and I would love to be with her if she would still have me. Cynthia: Our blessings are always with both of you, and don't you worry. Whenever she is ready to talk and ready to listen, I will talk to her. Ryan: Thank you, Cynthia. I have to run now, but I will be back soon with some good news.
