Zachary felt the omen long before the incident occurred. Years ago, he was living in the ghetto with his mother before his biological father finally surfaced and took him in with his legally wedded wife and two legitimate sons though he was quite older than the two. Xena was his street closest friend and he frequently visited him in his new home but just one day, he was involved in a hit-and-run and that was his end. While still brooding over the loss of his dear friend, his dear mother left home, leaving a weird note behind.
"Vial. Up. Trap. Shelf. Randy. Quick. Please."
Of the seven words, he could decode the meaning of one while reading the note. No one wouldn't know that Randy, her half brother being there makes a lot of meaning. Minutes after reading the letter, he started finding meaning to the note. Lying on his shelf is his medicine vial and he quickly rushed at it.
Knowing the rest of the words in the note, he paused and sighed - trap! Just two days ago, he got the medicine from a drug store to help him with his depression. Intentionally, he mixed some of the content with his pet food, watched the cat go to his death throes and all he did to save the pet proved futile.
Having realised all of that, Zachary then knew which of his brothers was after his life. Getting his vial in his pocket, he went to his father and tendered it to him. Father called the police and called for Randy's arrest, asking him to find the mother of his son.
Every ugly thing he did came to light. During the interrogation, he disclosed that he had murdered Zachary's mother. Chastising him then was a no option. Before he was condemned to death by the jury, he disclosed that his mother started it all and even perpetrated Xena's death. All said, he and his mother were sent to the gallows.
