Agonizing souls

The severely malnourished child was on the verge of death. I quickly set up an IV to give him much needed nutrition and other supplements.
Hours later when he was stable I turned in anger upon the illiterate parents. " Why are you starving this child? He needs proper food! "
Tears dropped down the broken, skeletal man who stood before me with folded hands. "Look around you, Doctor Sahib, the land is dead. We have no food." he said with pain in his eyes and heart.
He sobbed uncontrollably.
"The once fertile land has become infertile, there's no where to plant our crops." he said with an agonizing pain. I could see his heart breaking into pieces but I have no idea how to quench the fire of the poor father's broken heart.
The mother just stays there without a word, looking into space.
I have no idea how to reduce their pain, because at this point the anger in me died out upon hearing the poor father's explanation.
"I would take care of your child and give him all he deserves, he would get a scholarship from my side, i would sponsor his education. You won't have to worry about him anymore. I would give you my address you could come anytime to come check on him. I would give you money to take care of yourself and start a business." I said looking at the father as happiness slowly comes creeping into him.
I could see the joy in his eyes.
"Thank you so much Doctor Sahib we would be forever grateful to you for this." he said while smiling.
His wife was delighted, she couldn't control her emotions that tears began to stream down her eyes.
Happiness has gripped the lives of this family. And am happy I put a smiling on this suffering souls
