BLoG: The Stresses and Challenges of a Freelancer
The Stresses and Challenges as a Freelancer
Let's begin with the fact that I have been freelancing since 2008, when I decided to leave the corporate world. It was a decision that would change my life. I had finally had enough of the rabbit hole going nowhere that was my corporate career. And I had dug deep enough to hit rock bottom as I endured one layoff after another. Becoming a Freelancer has been a game changer to me, but thats not to say it doesn't have its stresses or challenges.
As a Freelancer, one must always be 2 things: ready for anything and always hungry. When you are chasing your own dreams and creating a whole new reality, the reality is its all up to you. Everyday one must Hustle and be on the hunt for new work and new opportunities. Everyday one must grind to find the business. Without a doubt, the stresses/challenges that come with being a Freelancer certainly exist. And they can be huge. After all you are your own Boss, bottom line. And by the way, here's was my chance to redefine the definition of a Boss. Basically, I was going to be able to change all the things I found wrong with the typical coporate boss by learning to manage myself properly and teaching myself how to be a leader instead. Here I would be able to shine without any coporate backlash. As a Freelancer, I was able to embrace my individuality. I was able to express myself as I chose to. But, on the other hand, the stress can be immense when the outcome is solely up to you and how you utilize/spend your time.
One of the major challenges is its only you. And there is only 1 of you! So as the person wearing all the hats: Boss, Worker and everything in between you must be able to manage your time accordingly. You must be able to handle the stresses of finding business or go home broke and empty handed. There is no one else doing the hard work or bringing in the projects. You must be able to take on such challenges and find a way through them. Most importantly, you are on your own clock. So as a Freelancer you must spend your time wisely.
All in all, becoming a Freelancer has been the best business choice I have ever made. To this day I am doing what I LooVe to do and that is to be a Creative. As a Creative Freelancer offering the services that we do: Photography, Graphic Design, Branding, Marketing and Brand Ambassador work we get to wear a variety of hats and offer a plethora of skillsets/experience that can and will help your business grow! We embrace our customers/clients as they are the root of our business. Making a living as a Freelancer is a true blessing. So how may we be of service?
