Love me on the darkest days
"I love you", he said and kissed her forehead. She was still upset about the news of the recent murders of her favourite neighbours. She was afraid to step out of home. The horror of those killings strangled her. He was worried, but left to work that day.
A couple of days passed. She never stepped out of her room.
That Friday night, he started packing their things. She was not ready to move an inch from her bed. He never uttered a word, but went near and sat next to her. She leaned on his shoulders. He sat hugging her for a while. He held her, looked at her face with eyes full of care and love, and asked, "Will you come with me?". She hugged him again, hurried her face on his chest for a couple of minutes, and then looked at his face with a heart full of emptiness and nodded yes.
They both came out of the house. He started locking and she was standing there staring at her neighbour's house. It was all dark with the police warning signs to restrict the area. He held her hands slowly, walked her to the car and helped her sit. Tears started flowing from her eyes. He looked at her for a minute, said nothing and put on her seatbelt. He then moved to the other side of the car, and got ready to drive. He sighed at her for a minute and started to drive.
It was all dark and through the roads admits the giant trees, it was all silence that prevailed among the two of them.
He moved the gear and she leaned towards his shoulders from her seat and slept for a while. Almost 4 hours passed and then woke up. He was driving without even his favourite playlist on. She got that he didn't want to disturb her. He looked at her and smiled a little. And there was a small smile back from her and she said, "I'm hungry". He asked her to check on the dashboard and he already had bought her favourite sandwich while she was asleep.
She couldn't smile more. It was quite a beautiful comfort to see how he tried to make...
