Confronting the Nightmare
#WritcoStoryPrompt39
Some dreams are meant to come true,. But what do you do when your nightmare comes true? Do you run the opposite way or face your fears?

Emma woke up in a cold sweat, panting heavily. She had just had a nightmare that felt all too real. In her dream, she was in a dark forest, being chased by a shadowy figure. She couldn't see its face, but she knew it meant her harm. Just as the figure was about to grab her, Emma woke up.

But as she looked around her room, she realized to her horror that the nightmare was not just a dream. The shadowy figure was standing in front of her, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.

Emma's first instinct was to run, to get as far away from the figure as possible. But something made her stop. She realized that this nightmare had come true for a reason, and that she had to face her fears.

With trembling hands, Emma got out of bed and approached the figure. As she got closer, she could see that it was not a monster or a demon, but a person. A person she recognized.

"Trevor?" she said, her voice shaking. "What are you doing here?"

Trevor looked up at her, his eyes still glowing. "I'm sorry, Emma," he said in a voice that was not his own. "I didn't mean to scare you."

Emma took a step back, unsure of what to do. But then she remembered something her grandmother had told her when she was a child: "The only way to conquer a nightmare is to face it head-on."

With newfound courage, Emma stood her ground. "What's going on, Trevor?" she demanded.

Trevor's eyes cleared, and he looked at her with confusion. "What do you mean?" he asked.

"You know what I mean," Emma said, her voice firm. "What's going on with you? Why are you acting like this?"

Trevor hesitated for a moment, but then he sighed and spoke. "I've been struggling with some things," he said. "I didn't know how to talk to you about it."

Emma felt a surge of empathy for Trevor. She knew what it was like to struggle with inner demons. "You don't have to go through this alone," she said. "We can face it together."

Trevor looked at her with gratitude and relief. "Thank you, Emma," he said. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

As they talked, the shadowy figure disappeared, and Emma knew that she had conquered her nightmare. She had faced her fears and come out stronger on the other side. And with Trevor by her side, she knew that they could conquer anything that came their way.
