The Slime (Comic 4)
Months had passed since Dirk had been learning his powers, he now knows he has the ability to glow in the dark, shoot acid slime. He wondered if there was anything else, but after trying many different methods and watching several films in which he could get ideas how heroes activated their powers, he was running out of ideas. Since he had his powers down he needed to learn how to fight, he thankfully has the strength from the fire department. One thing Dirk was worried about was when his blood pressure went up, his glowing activated, it was like a defense mechanism, like a wild animal in the wild protecting itself against a predator.
Dirk was at work in the weight room working out and lifting weights, his friend Jackson, a fellow firefighter, walked over.
"Yo Dirk, how's it going with the lady?" He looked at Dirk in curiosity. Dirk had told Jackson about the pregnancy, but Dirk and Janice hadn't told anyone else about it. Jackson was his best man at their wedding, and they want him to be the kids'godfather.
Dirk and Jackson had met back in College, they were roommates. They first hated each other, polar opposites, Jackson was a macho man, ready to fight anyone who got in his way, sometimes not always the brightest. Dirk being the sort of closed off person, but brave. However, Dirk wasn't one to let something on his mind not be said, he spoke his mind quite often, more often than it should.
"She's great, three months pregnant, I can't believe I'm going to be a father dude, this is insane. I'm really nervous, look at us, both of us partying in college not giving a damn in the world, now we're firefighters and I'm married and have a kid on the way, and well you are still a ladies man which hasn't changed" Dirk and Jackson chuckled.
"Yeah, even if our responsibilities have changed, doesn't mean you weren't ready for anything that came our way each time, look at all the crap that was thrown at us since college, losing Billy to the car accident, us losing our apartment due to the bills being raised in price, we are lucky we moved here when we did and that the fire department was hiring, after a decade and then some, we had things set for us from there."
Dirk looked at Jackson, he knew he was right, he overcame a lot, not too long after him and Jackson had moved here, Dirk ran into Janice at the supermarket while he was getting some water for the fire department's baseball team. He was on the team too, he was late to the game that day, he had got caught up in talking to Janice.
"You're right, this is just another thing I will overcome, but..." Dirk started to panic thinking about his new profound powers, and the stress he has gone through just learning his new powers. Dirk snapped out of his haze and noticed Jackson was looking at him in horror, Jackson's big brown eyes, his olive skin and his dark brown hair all glowing a green, Dirk realized why Jackson was looking at him like he was a monster. He was glowing....
