MAMA! I MADE IT.

The time had come to start my journey. I leaned out of the window, waving as long as I could while she disappeared into the distance. I saw the smile on her face as we got lost into the crowd of dust.
"This is what I had been waiting for" I said to myself. It was a journey I dreamed of since childhood. I got bored staying on the farm. I was born in Louisiana and worked at the factory with my mother. My mama worked so hard to bring food to the table. We were six of us. So I decided to get a life outside the farm. I could not wait any longer, so I left.
I had a goal in mind, to free my family from the bondage of poverty. I was not giving up anytime soon.
My journey to the township for the first time was very interesting. After a long drive through the rural roads of Louisiana we arrived in town. My aunt Miss Carmen was to pick me up, but due to lack of time consciousness, she got there late. By then, I, Sly- as the children back home used to call me- was curious and could not stay at one point, so i thought to myself "why not go for a stroll down the road" which eventually I did and got lost.
After hours of endless walks, I happened to bump into my aunty. "Oh dear! There you are, I have been looking for you for quite sometime, where have you been? I was so worried about you, anyway I know your hungry, let's go have dinner then your gonna tell me all about your journey". She said. "That is okay aunty, I just thought of taking a little stroll down the streets since you were late and I could not stand the looks on peoples faces as they passed by. " I replied.
We had a sumptuous meal. We later arrived home, she showed me my room and we said the grace and slept. I could not stop thinking about the next day, so naive was I that I could not fall asleep. I kept building castles in mid air as questions kept turning, churning and burning inside me. I had to lay and patiently wait for the next day.
"Good morning Carmen, I cannot believe this, this is my first day. Yaaaayyyy! I have been waiting for this day for quite sometime now. I don't know what awaits but I look forward to this day". I said as I walked down the stairs towards the kitchen. "Oh yes dear! It is going to be a good day, you know why!? " she asked. "No! Tell me" I replied. "Because you are going to audition for a play, and I am driving right away. " she replied. I stood trans fixed to the spot as endless streams of hot water came down my cheeks. I could not control the flow of tears since that was my dream. To act.
I quickly took breakfast and in a flash I was dressed up and we left. We arrived at the auditorium. We did our short scripts and later on the pinned the list of those that had got the parts. I jumped in excitement as I saw my name as the lead actress. My aunt Carmen hugged me so hard that I felt my lungs coming out of my chest as I held on to the little air.
"Your mother is going to be so proud of you dear, so am I". She said. "I am more than happy and thankful to you for making this happen" I replied.
My life changed for the better. I went back home to Louisiana, picked my mother and siblings and we drove back to town. I made sure my siblings went to school and graduated. Ever since, my life has not been the same were it not for my mother's belief in me and my dreams.
