stargazing with a girl (a short story)
" i've always loved stars, " she said, gazing up at the dark sky.

his head inclined upwards beside her, taking in the cluster of stars above, hoping for a shooting star to breeze past so that this night would never end.

" they make such a dark and empty canvas so beautiful by simply existing. "

cold air grazed his cheeks making him realize just how warm they were.

" but the stars we're seeing-- " she paused, " they've already been dead for millions of years. "

for a moment, he forgot how nerve wracking it was lying by her side.

looking up into the sky, he wondered if the prickles of light above were hanging by some invisible thread, connecting them as one constellation forever.

he found himself enjoying the whispers of silence just peacefully gazing up into an endless graveyard of glittering diamonds.

" i wish i was a star, " he said, turning to face her. " just so you'd watch me with that smile of yours every night, like the sight of me is lulling you to sleep. "

she chuckles, " but you'd be dead, silly boy. "

" i wouldn't care, " he cut her off, a serious look in his eyes. " because i know i'm making you happy just to see me shine. even if it is for the last time. "

" i don't want you as a star, " she turned her attention back to the sky. " you're much more wonderful anyway. "

heat creeped up his neck but his eyes were still glued onto the hazel eyed girl on his right.

" liar. "

her smile grew on it's own accord, gazing upwards at the beauties of the world.

his smile broadened as well, only his starry eyes were staring at the one beside him.
