A Life Forgotten, A Life Remembered Part 16

Part 16
A Chance Encounter

There she was, leaning against the sink of the ladies room.
Mina could hardly contain her excitable curiosity. I swear some day it's going to get her into trouble.

She said,
" OMG Shannon, that guy is ...."

Her body faked a quiver, as an audible sound came out.

  " Mmm ..."

Shaking her hand back and forth, fanning herself.

She added,
" He's hot, and did you notice that he never took his eyes off you? Not even when those women were talking to him."

I looked at her through the mirror as I washed my hands.

She then said with eager anticipation.
  " Well?"

I let out a quiet laugh. Teasing Mina was so easy to do.

With an innocent expression I asked,
  " Well what?"

She slapped me on the shoulder, and said,
" C'mon Shannon, what did you and Señor Gorgeous talk about out there?"

  As I dried my hands,
I said,
 " The celebration of
life!"

I tossed the paper towel in the trash, and added,
" I have to get back to work."

She let out a hard breath that made her bangs blow upwards.
Poor Mina, she stood there with her mouth open as I walked out.
Frustrated, and disappointed that I didn't give her any details.

Back on the floor, the party seemed to have less guest, but the orders for drinks were still coming.

Dorian asked for two double shots of Jose.
I thought, wow! I definitely didn't see that one coming. She doesn't look like a tequila kind of gal.

When I returned, blondie handed one shot to Dominick, and the other to me.
Confused, I thought she changed her mind.

She said,
  " This is for you."

I replied,
" Oh I'm sorry, we aren't allowed to drink on the job."

She smiled then said,
" Your boss, Sam said it was ok. Dominik asked if he could have a drink with you before we left."

I was a little peeved with Sam about this.

I said,
" Did he now? Well then I guess it's ok."

I took the glass and raised it to his.
With a clink I said,
  " Bottoms up!"

He gave a smile that made me feel like there was some meaning behind it.
I swallowed the tequila, licked my lips,
and added,
" Thank you
Sir Dominik for the drink. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you."

His expression was not misunderstood, and I had forgotten that Dorian was still there. That is until she cleared her throat.

She said,
" I believe we have to  be going Dominik. We have a long drive ahead and I'm really tired."

He didn't say anything for a long moment. I felt like I was in a trance. Then finally he looked away, pushed his seat back, and stood up.

A flash came in fast, but it was interrupted.

He said,
" Yes we do, if you ladies will excuse me, I must thank my guest for their company tonight."

Dorian watched him walk away, then turned to me and said,
" I will be taking care of tonight's tab."

She handed me her credit card, and continued,
" Feel free to add a suitable tip to it."

I asked,
" And what amount would that be?"

  She replied rather snobbish.
 " Well, I'm sure you'd
want to give a little something to the girl that covered for you. Then there's the bartender that..."

  I interrupted her,
" Yes, yes, I know how to divy up the tips. What I am asking is how much would you like the tip amount to be?"

I waited, and watched her, and it seemed like Dorian was amused by my irritation.

I noticed Sam was looking in our direction as well. Perhaps it was my voice which was a little louder than usual that caught his attention.

At the bar I handed Sam the card, and order slips.

I said,
" Oh and add three bills as a tip to the amount."

Sam said, with one eyebrow raised.
  " Three hundred huh?"

I said,
" That's what blondie said. Oh and make sure Mina, and Jack get a bill each, you can keep the rest."

  Sam looked confused, then said,
" Shannon that's your money. You worked for it."

I looked at him, shook my finger back and forth, then said,
" Keep it, I did good with the guest."

He tried to say something, but I cut him off with a shh when I placed my finger against my puckered lips.
He raised his hands in surrender as I continued to clean up.

After I was done washing, and towel dried the glass ware, Dominik, and blondie approached me.
I handed her the card, and receipt as I focused on his face. I gave him a smile while she looked it over.

Then she said,
" Well, I think the night was good, everyone seemed like they enjoyed themselves. I'd say the party was a success, don't you think so Dominik?"

Dorian looked at him, but she didn't wait for him to answer.

She continued,
" Thank you for your hospitality......"

She pointed her finger repeatedly, shaking it as if she were trying to remember my name.
Blondie was a bit theatrical with her embarrassment.

I said,
  " Shannon!"

She let out a laugh that was all too fake, and said,
" Right, Shannon, well it was nice to finally see....I mean it was nice meeting you."

Hmm did she say what I think she said.
She extended her hand as I put mine out. I imagined her pulling out a wipe to clean it, or bite it off.
The woman gave me a look over once more, and again she made me feel like she was comparing me to.....her.
  Dorian looked around the place.

She added,
" Now, please excuse me while I give my thanks to the owner of this fine establishment for everything."

For some reason, I got the feeling she'd rather be somewhere else.
As she walked towards the door where Sam and Ben were standing, I thought, damn that woman oozed her snobbery by the gallons.

For a second I thought I had spoken out loud because the moment I thought this, she turned in my direction revealing a grin that gave me the creeps.

If it was any wider, I imagine sharp teeth would come out of that snout.
A boisterous laugh was let out at that moment, and I'm hoping it was something the guys said that released that chilling sound from the hell pit inside of her.
A shiver ran through me as I turned to continue my work.

I had forgotten that Dominik was still standing there. Clearing his throat, I suddenly felt red faced.
I'm sure my expression towards Dorian wasn't at all friendly, but I ignored my embarrassment,
and said,
" Hey, Sir Dominik, I hope you had an ok time tonight. I mean since you don't like crowds."
He replied,
" Sir Dominik? You make me sound like a knight."
I let out a quiet laugh then said,
" Why not, I think it
  fits."
The heat of the blush rose to my face as the urge to put my lips on his came on.
He said,
" I like it, but don't count on me being the knight in shining armor. I am more of a rebel. Ya know, one who defies all the rules."
Dark, and seductive his eyes were as they stared into mine. I had no doubt he was a bad boy.
He continued,
" And yes, I enjoyed seeing you ag...."

Wait just a damn minute, was he gonna say seeing me again. Maybe I heard wrong, nah I know what I heard. I decided to brush it off.
I said,
" It was a pleasure meeting you Sir Dominik."
Flirting with him wasn't hard at all. Perhaps it was the mutual attraction that made it easy. Besides,
I knew blondie was watching, so I laid it on thick. Ya know, pay back for the dog like grin.
I gave him my hand and instead of shaking it, he bent down and caressed it with his lips, then kissed it.
Then he said,
" The pleasure was all mine, and I would hope to see you again."
He reached in his pocket and handed me an envelope.
I asked,
  " What is it?"
He answered,
" Just a little something, a gift for you."
I felt a little dizzy as a flash of something hit me hard. It was fuzzy at first, then I could see a box. A red strand, I think.....gone now.
I'm sure I looked lost, and confused.
He stared at me for a moment, then he asked,
  " Shannon, are you alright?"
Forcing myself to snap out of it, I said,
" Umm... yeah, I'm good, just a little tired."
His face gentle, he put the envelope in my hand and said,
" I'm sure you are, and that is why this is for you."
I took it, but decided not to open it.
I simply said,
  " Thank you!"
His smile made me melt, then I added,
" I have a lot of cleaning to do, and you have a long drive to get started on. Again it was a pleasure."
His eyes locked with mine as he said,
" As it was for me."

The moment broke when Dorian placed her hand on his shoulder and said,
  " Are you ready darling?"
Although his smile was soft, his eyes gave a different feeling. Perhaps he didn't like the term of endearment she had used, because I caught something in his eyes that showed his dislike for her.
He reined it in, but not fast enough to hide it. Or maybe he meant for me to see it.
I believe that Dorian picked up on this as well because she removed her hand quickly as though she had touched fire.
He motioned for her to lead the way.

By this time the place was empty, and after an hour or so we were done for the night.
As we headed towards the door, Jack went to use the facilities, and we decided to wait for him outside.
