FORCES OF THE UNDERWORLD (STORY 5)
COVEN CASINO
Alex was on another of his exciting journeys, driving his car on a dark, rainy and windswept night near the Canadian border. He was a video blogger and it was his dream for one of his travelling films to go viral on YouTube. Then, Alex thought to himself, he would have made it.
He had his phone camera set up on the dashboard. He was regaling his viewers with his plans for his journey and the kind of people he would meet, as he live streamed. Little blue thumbs and red hearts popped up on the screen giving him the validation he was seeking.
While he was talking, not paying attention to the road ahead, Alex felt a thump as the bumper struck something hard which then landed on the windscreen that cracked and caved in. Whatever Alex had hit disappeared from sight.
Meanwhile the airbag had inflated saving him from serious injury but he was still stunned. The car slowed and rolled to a stop. Beginning to recover Alex looked in the rear view mirror to see a crumpled body lying in the road.
"Oh my God!" He grabbed his camera off the dashboard and quickly opened the door out into the rain. He was soon soaked and his wet clothes and hair clinged to his skin.
He ran towards the body, his feet splashing through the puddles. His instinct to capture the moment on film had stayed with him despite the shock of what had happened. Alex began commentating for his viewers whilst still trying to catch his breath.
"As you just witnessed I've hit someone with my car. I never saw him. Please be alive."
Alex reached out and checked on the man whilst keeping the camera, shakily, aimed at the body.
"Shit, shit, shit! There's no pulse." Alex turned the camera on himself. "I can't believe it. I've killed someone!"
Tears filled his eyes and merged with the rain pouring down his disturbed face.
While he stood there mourning a stranger before his watching YouTube followers, a figure appeared behind him on the screen. Alex's eyes widened in terror as he recognised who was video bombing him. The man who had shattered his windscreen, bouncing off his car. The man who'd been crumpled in the road. The man without a pulse.
And now he stood behind him, seemingly alive and yet still pale as death. The man opened his mouth revealing razor sharp fangs. Alex screamed into the camera as teeth plunged into his neck. As thousands of people watched, screaming along with him, arterial blood sprayed onto the screen. The live stream came to an abrupt end when the vampire switched it off.

The SBI agents watched the footage in the incident room.
"We need to deal with this quickly. Your recent mess was bad enough. Thankfully if any of those bikers do speak out it can be written off as a drug induced mass delusion. But this incident was captured on film and has been seen by millions. We need to find a way to make people believe the footage is fake," Dubois said. "We also need to find this vampire, hopefully there is only one, and kill him. There was a road sign that said Niagara Falls. That's where you're going."

Alex woke, still in the road. The vampire was pacing back and forth. Alex patted the ground next to him until his hand grasped his phone. He picked it up and checked it. It wasn't broken. Alex sighed with relief. Then the relief was gone as he felt the blood on his neck. He touched it, feeling the two puncture wounds. "Am I...?"
"Yes, damn it! I only wanted to go for a walk. I haven't been out in years. And what happens?"
"I hit you with my car and you turned me into a vampire?"
"Can you blame me? We still feel pain you know. I lost my temper, okay. The others are going to be pissed."
"The others?"
"Yes, others. I'm not the only one. You're coming with me. You can tell them what happened."
