The Past We Left Behind - Chapter 6
Ethan's face furrowed as his eyes met Adam's. Memories of their meeting flashed before Ethan's eyes, and his body tensed instinctively. It seemed that Adam was also taken aback by the unexpected meeting, and you could see on his face that he was not very happy to see him.
"Look, who do we have here? A guy who likes to steal from other people. I wouldn't be surprised if Abigail wasn't the only thing you stole and that's why you're here." Adam began to speak with an arrogant sneer. Ethan clenched his fists, feeling a surge of anger rise inside him. He took a deep breath, trying to keep his composure and concentrate on what he had come for, to report his missing belongings. In a firm voice, Ethan replied, "I suggest you mind your own business, Adam. I came here to report my missing items, not to deal with you."
Adam's smug expression disappeared for a moment, but returned immediately, "So your belongings are gone, huh? That's what you deserve when you steal what isn't yours. You know what they say, everything comes back and everything is paid for."
Ethan's jaw tightened, his patience wearing thin. He couldn't let Adam's words get to him.
"I'm not interested in your theories or assumptions, Adam. I'm here to do what I have to do, so get out of my way." He said in a steady voice and walked past Adam, trying to ignore him, but Adam didn't plan on their conversation ending so quickly. With a wicked grin, he said, "Just so you know, Abigail still wants me. I could see it in her eyes. You're just her entertainment, a temporary replacement until she forgives me. And when that happens, she'll discard you like an old rag. Is replacement really what you want to be?"
Ethan stopped and turned around. His fists clenched even tighter as he struggled to keep his composure. Adam's words hit him right in the nerve, but also in the heart, sowing the seed of doubt in him.
"Enough, Adam!" He said loudly, his voice echoing so loudly that it caught the attention of one of the officers. A man in a blue uniform came out of the station and approached them. "Is everything okay here?"
