Lost Childhood 4
What was somewhat unfortunate for the girls was that it rained most of the day. The wind and the rain as it traveled through the trees had the birds filled with excitement as they chattered and flew back and forth, really not knowing which place was best for them.

Emily went to her room and found the hopscotch mat she had gotten a few year ago. It wasn’t as good as being outside or as colorful as the one she and Martina had created, but it would have to do considering the circumstances of today’s weather conditions.

The wind had brought with it cooler temperatures and the girls were content indoors with their game. They also enjoyed a treat of cookies and hot chocolate Mr. Peterson had made for them. He had learned that he was a natural in the kitchen since his wife had passed two years ago.

Since then he had adjusted as much as he could working at home and becoming a single parent.
Raising two children is something he had taken for granted when Marjorie was alive; she made everything look so easy. Even when it got close to the end she still attempted to do what she could.

Chemotherapy had just zapped out of her what little strength that was left. Some days when Mitchell could leave the office early, he’d rush home to help out where he could. Some afternoons he would find Marjorie napping on the daybed he had placed downstairs for days like these. Sarah was just headed to pick up Emily from school.
