Lost Childhood 16
One day when they returned home from school, it was the last week of school for the year. They entered the house and for once David, Jacqueline’s brother was not there; they went about their usual routine. They completed their homework, cleaned their rooms and then headed to the kitchen for a snack. This time there was not only quesadillas but also chili afterwards they cleaned the kitchen and set the table for dinner.

Matilda went to her room afterwards but this time Alejandro stayed in the living room and watched television. It started to get dark and he was feeling a little tired; Their father still wasn’t home from work. Going to his room he decided to lay down and take a short nap. The next thing he realized was it was morning and time for school. Matilda was waiting in the living room by the time he was ready to leave.

On the walk to school they didn’t have much to say to each other; they both still seemed a little tired from the night before. When they got to school they were just in time for their first class. When lunchtime came around they were feeling a lot more energetic and like their usual self. They talked a little about the day before and realized neither one of them had eaten anything since their snack when they came home from school yesterday.

They were so hungry they didn’t do or say anything else besides consuming what was in front of them.
The next thing they realized that the bell was ringing, signaling that lunch was over and it was time for their next class of the day. They said goodbye to each other and promised they would go somewhere after school to finish the conversation they started during lunch.

On their way home from school they stopped at their favorite bakery and bought some of their favorite desserts. They took them to the park and found a table where they could sit, talk and enjoy the treats they had bought. They knew that if they took them home they wouldn’t be able to eat them until after dinner but most importantly they wanted a place where that could talk alone.

While talking they discovered that they both had went to bed after eating their snack yesterday; they also had not eaten dinner and didn’t wake up until late the next morning. They just looked at each other and ate their treats. Then Alejandro made Matilda promise not to eat a snack when they got home. They would complete their usual chores but make some type of excuse to go to their rooms afterwards. They wouldn’t eat until their father came home.
