The thing when you're from Hybrid families, it's hard to sort of speak a single language, when you're from two very different cultures….. VERY DIFFERENT !!

I learned to speak Cambodian when I was only 1 year old because I was born in North Cambodia. I struggled to speak Malayalam, which is from mum's side. But it's really embarrassing when you don't know to speak your own native language. Relatives ask you something and it's basically just a shy nod and then a stammer and then parents explain that "Oh, mocha does not speak proper cambodian/malayalam" and my name… Named after my Mom's and Dad's Favourite coffee and honestly… I love my name……

So, there was this time I went to visit my family and I was super bummed- because all my relatives spoke to me in Cambodian French and I was freaking out, you get it?
Native languages are important and never forget that they’re also part of you… If you like it or not.
