The footsteps following me sounded closer. I ran through the empty corridors of the hospital, my heart pounding with terror.
I turned a corner and stopped short. I had reached a dead end. And then the footsteps were a few furlongs away and there appeared a shadowed person followed by others, someone said something.....I had clutched my teddy bear tight, the shadowed figure smiled at me( not to mention the smile was indeed beautiful and the coral lips formed the most beautiful crescent)and fished out something from one of those coat pockets with a gleam in eyes...procured some hideous looking transparent yet packed stuff, and within minutes it was unpacked a horrible invention of Thermoplasty(that time it was really horrible invention for me)with tiny surface area it shone like a glass coated with silver, the seven year old me, shrieked in fright but then the shadowed figure stepped forward from the dark corner of the crowd and light rays radiated the lovely face and a warm and assuring smile spread across, the lady came forward and bent down and hugged me tight and the stream of pearls flowed down my moon cheeks, it's okay dear Angobi, the lady spoke.
While, I only managed to articulate - Ima!( mother in manipuri)
Ima retorted ,"Don't worry it is .... it is just going to be an small ant like bite and after getting your vaccination done I will head for the pediatric department, few patients are left to attend but after that I assure you - that I will take you for a treat to EAT - PHAM restaurant, and then we will go to IMA KEITHEL... to shop for some phaneks(manipuri : sarong, skirt)for you, don't you worry I am with you, my dear cherub, "
My eyes gleamed up at the thought of this, but it was not long that I realized that my Ima had already vaccinated me and was now just dab-pressing cotton and lifting my arm...., surprised I asked - Ima is vaccination done, really? Ima smiled and replied, "Yes my baby it's done you are a brave baby and now you are also a super baby and can defeat pathogens !"I smiled at this... assuming myself as one of the relatives of Pakhangba (founder king of manipur) strong and fierce, kind and chivalrous. and as promised my Ima spent the rest of the day with me shopping, enjoying delicacies . .. I was impressed with my Ima's ways of working, her skills, most ethical and strong headed, confident lady to whom I always look up to ..... and I also laugh at the day when I threw lot of tantrums and created ruckus.. but in the end my Dr Ima soothed me and vaccinated me with her skillful art.... and patience!
