Do You Remember Those Saturdays
Do you Remember those Saturdays?

Those Saturdays with Homemade Akara were really fun, and interesting.🙂

Mum will pour the beans in a tray for us to pick out all the stones.
Then after, she will soak it in water.
When it's properly soaked, it is then ready for pounding with mortar and pestle.
Next, washing.
Under mum's scrutiny, you will have to wash and wash until no 'eye of beans' is found 😁.

When it is certified clean by mum, then she will add the necessary ingredients before we take it for grinding.

Back home after grinding, mum will mix it up with needed ingredients and start frying with palm oil.

The 'chwiiiiiiinnnnnn' sound while she fries and the aroma that fills the air was so relieving to my stomach because something nice was being prepared to come in there.🤣

I and my siblings will be seen hanging around my mum as she fries, for a little taste here and there.

"Una wan finish am from fire?", Mum would say. 🤣

When it's ready at last, sounds of 'kpangara! kpangara!! kpangara!!! begins as the stainless plates are sorted from the basket and arranged for the meal to be served.

Mum usually served it with Akamu or bread. Come and see as apt attention is giving to such meal.😋

I don't even want to talk about that sibling of mine that will be 'tien tienring' her food so that hers won't get finished on time 🤣.

How I loved and missed such Saturday 😍.
It created stronger family bond as everyone is involved in the process, from Dad who provides the money, to Mum who organises and executes the preparation with assistance from I and my siblings and to the final consumers, every member of the family! 😁.

All thanks to my good neighbour who served me this homemade Akara that brought back beautiful memories.

So tell me, have you had Homemade Akara on a Saturday?
