a short story
She woke up tired . She knew she sleep walked. Just no one knew where she wondered. Once she found herself sleeping on the footpath that led to her parent's old house. It was nine kilometers away from hers. The house was contested between her brothers. She had long decided to sign off her rights though the house was left to her. It was something her mother advised her not to do. "Your brothers have enough and have received everything else. They will destroy this beautiful legacy of my family. But she was aware she was the illegitimate daughter of her father. It was a surprise how much her mother loved her, even though she was not from her blood.
Her brothers were unaware. They thought she just loved them a lot. Or thought till that day of waking up to find them staring at her in awe but fear. She did love them as much as she could. But when at the age of five onwards your father have always told you that you are the one whom he wanted dead, your ability to love and trust reduces.
Today she was however in her bed. Her dirty slippers were proof that she did sleepwalk yesterday too. Tired, she picked up her hands to shield her eyes from the sunlight and two pair of eyes stared back at her. One ragged dog and another kitten.
There was milk iin frontof them. She thought she had dreamt of them ylast night About saving them from an unkind neighbour whose wife remarked I never knew you could speak. Was that not a dream..?
Slowly she laughed. She remembered the look of shock on his brother's wife 's face when she asked her softly .. do you remember what you said yesterday ? She had a brief dream of telling her to get her dna checked as her father was close to many neighbourhood ladies. Her brother looked away as if in perpetual shock. She said no..
She laughed again. She remembered going to meet her mother in her grave and her ghost telling her .. fight Liah fight. I made you mine because you came in my dreams. My house should be yours.
She remembered deciding to do the same .. in her dreams.
May be she should. Little kitten meowed and the dog rubbed against her legs. But first they both needed a bath and proper food.
