"The most irritable moment in my life"
It was in the year 2016 when I passed out my tenth grade. The result was good. I was happy with my scores except English. Yes, I did score well in it but I was not satisfied. I had to accept that, and I made a promise to myself that I would do better in English in the twelve standard.

It was on the 25th May, 2016 when our result was being declared. After few weeks, I went to school to take my marksheet.

I was on the way to go back home. The unknown woman saw me walking alone. She called me and said "Where are you coming from?". "I just came to take my marksheet from school." I replied.

"Oh! Marksheet? Can I see it?" she asked. I was feeling irritating when I heard the question. I understood that the woman just wanted to look at my scores. I didn't have any other choices rather than giving it to her.

She looked at my scores with a surprise in her face. "You must be the most intelligent one in this batch, right?" she added. "Yes! I'm the highest scorer in this batch." I said. I had to tell the truth because it was true that I scored the highest from our school.

"You're so good at Mathematics, it seems! Look at your Mathematics's score! It's the best!" she said. "Will you teach my son? He finds problem in Mathematics. I will give with the money only." she further added. I was quiet for a moment.

I said, "I'm sorry ma'am. I won't have time because I'm going to opt for a Science stream. I hope you know that being a science student is not a piece of cake. We have to do practicals, attend theory classes and so on. It's difficult for me to manage the time."

She then agreed with what I said. I said goodbye to her and left. At that moment I saw my teacher. I was happy to see her because she was the only one among all the teachers whom I hadn't got to shake hands with. Hearing my voice, she stopped.

She asked for the marksheet. She smiled as she was looking at my scores. She said, "So, where are you going for your further studies?" "I'm going to opt Science stream in Kiang Nangbah Government College." I replied. "What!Kiang Nangbah?"she spoke in a loud voice. I said, "Yes, Kiang Nangbah!" I was shocked to see that she was surprised when I said the word 'Goverment'.

She said, "Why don't you go to Shillong either in St. Anthony's college or St. Edmund's College? " I kept quiet for some time. It was then I understood that she insulted the college I was taking admission in. "I want to opt Geology instead of Biology which is why I want admission in Kiang Nangbah Government College. No institution in Jowai town offers Geology, that's why I want to go there." I stated. She looked at me with a change in her face.

"Why?? Isn't Geology there in Shillong?" she asked. "If I'm not mistaken, Geology is there in St. Anthony's but I don't have much information about that" I said."But I don't want to go to Shillong. If I study in a government college also, I will get the same concept. It doesn't matter whether we are in a private or government institution." I said.

It seemed as if she was trying to force me to go and study in Shillong city which is a high standard as compared to Jowai town. Yes, it's true that city is at a high standard than town, but the thing that irritated me was about the institution. Her mindset really frustrated me. In fact, most of the people in the area I live have the same mindset that is if we study in Kiang Nangbah Government College, we have no future. It seemed as if no teachers are there in a government college.

I was feeling sad when she said, "St. Anthony's college and most of colleges in Shillong are much better than Kiang Nangbah Government College." It seems as if the teachers in Kiang Nangbah Government College are zero with no qualifications, but she never know that the teachers in Kiang Nangbah Government College are all experts.

Most of the people condemn me because I study in a government college. They called it "A dustbin". I don't understand what they mean by saying "Dustbin". It's a government college which means it has to accept all; the poor and the rich are equal in the college. The college provides equal education to all. The poor can afford by studying in a government college because the fee is not so costly as that in private colleges.

I never let myself feel down because it's the same thing whether we study in a government college or private college. From that day onwards, I started hating that teacher and I promised myself that one day, I would make her mouth shut.

Her mouth truly got shut when my 12th grade result was out. My score for English was satisfied during 12th grade.

I was condemned by most even my own ex-teachers. I remain strong till now.

Thank you for reading my story.
