Allure of Heaven
As a child, the concept of Heaven was always a mystery to me. I remember getting reprimanded by the priest, when I asked in sunday school, how spending eternity in God's presence, singing his praises would be something to look forward to. The answer he gave, that God is love and God's presence makes Heaven a wonderful place, also failed to entice me. The reservations that plagued my childish mind were pushed aside by the struggles of life growing up brought with it. But, finally, I found an answer, a reason to long for Heaven, during the eulogy for my grandfather. The Bishop who delivered the eulogy said the same words that the priest used to answer my question in sunday school, that Heaven is the abode of eternal love. But, it was when he elucidated about Hell, that I truly grasped the enchantment of Heaven. The Bishop explained that the experience in Hell would be much more severe than the pain and loneliness from the death of a relative, as Hell is the absence of God; the absolute absence of love. That left a mark in my heart, cause the pain I was feeling from the loss of my grandfather was nothing like I had ever felt before, and I couldn't imagine anything more intense. It is when I understood the implications of the absence of love, that I fully understood the divinity of eternal love, the allure of Heaven...
