Be a Light in the Darkness
The world can often be a dark and dispairing place, and we can succumb to that darkness or we can choose to be a light, a beacon of hope, a shining ray of love, illuminating the space around us.
Faced with intolerance, corruption, injustice and ill-will, we can choose to live from the heart. Where there is hostility we can become instruments of peace. Where there is hatred we can sow love. Where there is injury, forgiveness. Where there is sorrow, joy. Where there is despair, hope. And where there is darkness, light.
The world will never change unless each of us changes within. When we are able to see the outer conflict as a manifestation of internal conflict, we can uproot it. When we tap into the love that resides in the heart of every one of us, we can begin to respond from that place of love rather than from a place of internal conflict.
With those who are consumed in darkness we must exercise patience, compassion and forgiveness, while not succumbing to the darkness ourselves, but bringing light into that space.
People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.
Whatever you do in life, do it with love. In every encounter, encounter yourself within the other. Treat others as if they are an extension of you. Be kind. Be patient. Even the smallest random acts of kindness can have profound and immeasurable impact. Open doors for others. Spare change for those who find themselves short. Wave others to cut in front of you in traffic. Smile at strangers.
Hatred and anger spread like contagion, but love is contagious too. So choose love. Give live. Live in Love. Be love. And let the undying fire of love illumine the whole world.
