The Past We Left Behind - Chapter 12
"Um, if they are on the yacht, then I don't think we can do much there, at least not fast enough. But I know who can." The officer said and looked at his colleague. The latter nodded to him, then turned to Ethan, "I have a friend in the marine industry. He has experience tracking ships, and if anyone can help you find that yacht as quickly as possible, it's him."
Ethan's eyes widened with a hint of hope as he listened to the officer's suggestion. He feared he would have to be prepared for a difficult and lengthy investigation, but the mention of someone who specialized in tracking ships gave him hope that Abigail could be safe with him again very soon.
"You have a contact from someone who can track the yacht? That's great!" Ethan exclaimed, his voice tinged with relief and anticipation. "Please, if there's any chance I can find Abigail quickly, I'm willing to do whatever it takes."
The officer nodded, his expression serious and determined. "I'll contact him right away. Wait a minute."
The officer quickly went to a nearby table and picked up the phone. He dialed the number with a sense of urgency, his eyes focused on Ethan and Rebecca as he spoke in a low tone. After a short conversation, he hung up and spoke to them again, "I just spoke with my contact, Captain Williams." Said the officer with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "He's willing to help us track the yacht and search for Abigail. He's assembling a team and coordinating resources right now as we speak."
Ethan's heart leapt with gratitude and relief. He knew they were one step closer to getting Abigail back to safety.
"When can we meet with Captain Williams? I want to give him all the information I have." He said, his voice filled with determination.
The officer nodded, "He's on his way here. He should arrive shortly."
Ethan and Rebecca waited anxiously, their minds filled with a mixture of hope and worry. Besides her worries, Rebecca was also thinking about why Ethan hadn't turned her in to the police. She couldn't stop wondering why he hadn't betrayed her if she was a participant, as he had originally said he would. She wanted to ask him, but quickly changed her mind. Seeing that the policemen were right behind them, she decided that it was better to stay silent and just wait to see what would happen next. The minutes seemed like an eternity as they anxiously waited for Captain Williams to appear. After waiting for some time, the door suddenly opened and an elderly man with a sailor's cap, gray hair and a beard entered the room. He exuded authority and confidence, immediately attracting attention.
"There he is. Captain Williams." The officer said, gesturing his head towards the gentleman. The bearded old man nodded and smiled kindly in greeting.
