love at First Sight (chapter 1)
The cold water calmed the racing heart within me as I splashed it on my face. It eased my anxiety, and tiny droplets on my tee-shirt reminded me of a mole on her eye, a charming mark she couldn't see due to her inability to wink. I decided to capture her beauty in a peaceful moment.

After drying off, I faced the mirror, noticing the tiredness around my eyes from sleepless nights. Despite that, I left the bathroom, spotting my cherished six-stringed Pluto on the couch, a gift from Dad last Christmas. The mahogany beauty always brought me joy.

I never let go of it. I carried it around proudly and kept the marks on my fingertips like a soldier showing off battle scars. I smiled as I remembered the time we spent together, practicing and singing the song. The song brought back strong emotions, making me feel nervous and causing me to run to the bathroom. When I returned, I had more stains on my shirt. I sighed deeply, trying to calm my emotions. After everything settled down, I rested on the couch and looked at the old candle chandelier in D’Coasta’s Palace.

I couldn't have asked for a better place to go. The prices on the menu were high, but the atmosphere of the restaurant was perfect for today. During the day, D'Coasta's Palace looked old and empty, with unlit candles and paper lanterns. But at night, it turned into a busy place with bright lights. The kitchen was large and served many types of food: Chinese, Indian, Korean, Schezwan, Thai, Italian, and more.

At the back of the restaurant, there was a small stage where comedians and music bands performed live. Every Saturday, my dad would take my mom there, and he would come home boasting about enjoying Dosas while listening to Songs. The staff at D’Coasta’s Palace looked surprised when I entered the restaurant during the day. I smiled, thinking I had all the privacy I needed, but I remembered that Mr. D’Coasta, the owner and my dad’s close friend, was there. A waitress named Rachel, who was Mr. D’Coasta’s daughter and my friend, came to take my order.

"Sir, your order?" said the waitress, who had appeared with a pen poised upon a notepad and smiling face. Her name was Rachel: Mr. D'Coasta's daughter and a friend of mine.

"I thought you owned this place!" I said.

"Well, actually, one of the waitresses is on leave so dad assigned me with her job. And, I thought, why not take it? I really need to understand how my restaurant works before I can finally take over the business. It's fun actually. But the sad part is that I never get paid," she made a face.

"Oh, don't worry. I will tip you well."

She chortled, and then cleared her throat, "May I have your order sir?"

"I am waiting for someone," said 1. "Why don't you just get me a coke for now, and I'll place the order after she comes."

"It's a she, eh?" she smiled mischievously.

"A she it is," said I. She laughed at the way my cheeks turned red.

She marched towards the kitchen and returned with a glass of fizzing cola and placed it upon my table. I took a sip and said, "Thank you."

"You're welcome, sir," she smiled. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"

"Yeah," said I. "Switch on the lights, will ya? It is getting dark in here."

"Oh sure, sir. No problem. And, I shall light the incense candles too, so that you and your-" she cleared her throat -"friend can have a wonderful time."

"Oh, that will be great," I said, gratefully.

"Well, I am banking on your tip, sir," she pulled her tongue out and walked away.

I laughed.

The candles and lanterns lit up the room, creating a romantic atmosphere at D'Coasta's Palace. The scent of the candles filled the air as their flames danced happily. To enhance the romantic vibe, she turned on the music, and the soothing sounds of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" filled the room. Despite hearing the song many times before, it felt like a new experience as I got lost in the lyrics, singing along with my guitar in hand.

Wise men say only fools rush in but I can't help falling in love with you

I could feel my heart pounding again...

Shall I stay?

Would it be a sin

if I can't help falling in love with you?

I pressed the guitar case closer to my chest, and then I closed my eyes.

Like a river flows surely to the sea Darling, so it goes Some things are meant to be

Take my hand, take my whole life too For I can't help falling in love with you I could see her...

They weren't eyes, but sea shells. Long and wide sea shells holding pearls inside them: Round white pearls and brown ones within them.

It was the 2 of November, 2007, 11:15 am, and I wished her looks could just kill me. Her long eye lashes flapped twice before the brown pearls focused on me. My heart trembled, plummeting inside them. Although her stares were that of annoyance, I still could not take my eyes off her.

I knew that it was love at first sight otherwise I would not have gotten glued to her despite the fact that there were hundreds of girls around me.
