Charlie and Starleena, The Perposal
“Baby, I have a surprise for you.” Charlie said over the phone. “You do? What is it babe? Tell me!” Starleena exclaimed excitedly. “ I can’t tell you, it will ruin the surprise. Now, open your work bag, I left you a little clue in there. Read it, and follow the instructions. I’ll see you soon.” Charlie said and hung up the phone. Starleena hung up the phone and grabbed her work bag. She reached in the pocket and grabbed a folded piece of paper. It was cut in the shape of a heart. On it was a written clue, “My family was looking for a brand new start, come to the place where I first saw your art”
Starleena thought about the clue for a moment. Suddenly the answer came to her, the fairgrounds where the school art show was held when she was thirteen. Grabbing her bike, Starleena took off on the ten minute path to the fairgrounds. When she got there, there was one stand alone booth that had yellow, red, pink, purple, and blue fairy lights on all the poles and around the top of the tent, lighting it up. When she went inside, there were posters of some pictures of Charlie hung up on all 4 walls of the booth that Starleena had painted. She spun around, taking in all the pictures. Hanging from the ceiling at the back of the booth was another Heart shaped clue. She read the heart aloud “Go to the place where we bumped into each other by your locker. Your next clue is inside, do you remember the combination?” Starleena racked her brain for a minute, then it hit her. Her locker at the high school from senior year. She and Charlie had been working on their senior prank and ended up running into each other at her locker.
Starleena got back on her bike and started riding to their old high school. Once there, Jeremiah the security guard, let Starleena go right through. She quickly found her old locker and did the combination, 1-4-
3. The lock popped open and the door opened. This time there was a bouquet of flowers: heirloom roses, Delphinium, pink carnations, yellow and orange gradient daisies and star flowers. Behind the vase the flowers were in, was a card that read “We have watched many sunsets and sunrises here. Meet me where we had our first kiss after we went to our first school dance. Follow the light to the water’s edge. I’ll see you soon!”
Starleena didn’t even have to think of where to go. She knew that their first kiss was at sunset on the beach. They had just gone to their first high school dance. After the dance ended, it was tradition to go to the beach for a bonfire and for couples to watch the sunset together. Since the beach wasn’t too far from the school, Starleena put the flowers in her basket on the bike and took off once again.
Arriving at the beach, she parked and locked her bike to the bike grid, took off her shoes, and walked along the path to the to spot where she and Charlie had their first kiss. At this point, Starleena was really wondering what Charlie had planned. When she came up to the path that would lead her to the spot that led down to the beach, she saw little golden fairy lights and arrows leading the way to the beach. Starleena was so excited that she couldn’t help but pick up her pace. After walking for about two minutes, she she...
