Birds Eye View
There are two kinds of Americas, one is in the North the other is the South! Simple geography, but while they are bothAmerica, they are completely different. What one considers evil and vile the other considers holy and sacred. As a Colombian American, the Vulture or Condor is our national bird! In fact, it is the national bird to several South American in Columbia. Even the great Inca Empire saw the Condor as message or god of the Sun! But in North America, the eagle rules, Lord and Conqueror of sky the eagle is. But the Vulture, well it is in name, scavengers they are, unholy they are, vile they are, villians they are. That what I see on TV and in Movies and as a Columbian American it hurts, and makes me feel like we the villians of the story, that condor is part of me, my culture, my ethnicity, my identity as a South American. Though not all hope is lost in North America, The First People of the Cherokee Nation see the Great Condor as the creator of their ancestral valley, so not all hope is lost. While I am happy and grateful that some First Nation see the Great Condor as Sacred, the rest of North America does not. The Great Condor is our God of the Sun, not Eagle, never the eagle. Indeed both birds are powerful but the Great Condor surpasses the Eagle in life. The Great Condor can live up to 75 years old, I like to an Eagle do that! Not so mighty now are you eagle. You may rule the sky, the condor is great and as a Colombian American I say Condor rules the land. Yes, I was born in the United State in the Pacific Northwest State of Oregon, and loving the Great Condor does not make me traitor nor do I disrespect the Bald Eagle. But tell me, as South American with Colombian heritage who has denied the their cultural roots and language why I should pick the eagle over the Great Condor?! If I had to pick a bird, it would be an Owl, not an Eagle though I will admit Harpy Eagle which is also from South America depicted as The Phoenix in movies, but I still choice an owl over the Great Condor or an Eagle(sorry Zues and Apollo, looks like The Moon Goddess wins the one). Its, funny though while I choice an owl as my favorite bird, the Snowy Owl is actually active during the day and not at night. Now, getting back to the Eagle and the great which I have not forgotten even though I did get side track. I say this again, give me a reason why I should pick the eagle over the Great Condor? And don't tell me it is because I am an Oregonian. No, you'll have to come up with something better than that. Patriotism? What does liking or in this case dislike an Eagle have to with Patriotism? National bird, my state bird is the western swallowtail and I am still not a fan. So, I again, and again give a reason for why I should pick the Eagle instead of The Great Condor. Maybe, I might change my mind, if you change your mind, views and depections about The Great Condor then and only then will I maybe possibly maybe change my mind that will take a lot of time and effort. So are you up for the Challenge? Can you persuade this Colombian American to change their views on the eagle? I Dare you to try, just try, and maybe just maybe, you might succeed.
