The Abandoned Area
I woke up after a long night of sleep. For a minute, I didn’t know where I was, but soon realized I was at my cousin’s house. Me and my mom arrived late the day before and got settled in before going to bed. I went downstairs, ate breakfast, and went to go play with my cousin, Vera.
But before I could go play, my mom said,”Finella, could you go to the public pantry and get some food? Your uncle Kestrel said we need more food”
“Sure, I can go. What do I need to get?”
“All the stuff that’s on this list.” as she hands me the list of five items. I then grab a bag and walk to the bus stop. I waited for a few minutes until the bus came. I got on the bus, it was not too full, and sat towards the mid-front of the bus. The only people in the area were the people to the right of me. They were a mom with 3 kids, a boy my age and 2 younger girls.
I waved to the two girls, and they waved back, and did the same for the mom and the guy, but they just smiled. I then looked outside and passed the time while listening to music. When the bus arrived at the pantry, me and the family got off, went in, and gone different directions
The pantry had been smaller than I thought it would, about 40 by 20 feet big. As I was looking through the shelves, I had found the bread I needed. As I was grabbing it, I accidentally dropped it on the ground. The guy that was on the bus suddenly was there picking it up.
“You needed this, right?” he asked calmly
“Yeah, thanks.” I replied quietly
“What’s your name?”
“I’m Finella, you?”
“River.”
He then walked away to go help his family get food and items to go. Once we were both done, we went to wait for the bus to arrive. River had handed me an older phone to play on to pass the time. The bus came about 10 minutes after we started waiting, and we had gotten on. We sat down in our seats and started talking about different games we like to play.
Soon I had gotten back to Vera’s house and went to put items away inside. As I was walking up the stairs, a goat tried to headbut me, but I got away in time. Vera had welcomed me back. As I was putting away the items, Vera came to talk to me.
