Ghana's Cocoa Governance: A Model of Sustainability and Support
Chocolate....the name itself is enough to make me drool. You all are no exceptions i know.Cocoa the main ingredient used in making chocolates is undergoing some serious production issues nowadays. The climatic change has its adverse effects showing up on the production of cocoa beans.According to cocoa producers across the globe, earlier cocoa season that was conducive for growing crops, usually knocked the doors during the month of February. But now its the month of may when cocoa production actually starts.Extremely hot whether conditions are a big barrier in future cocoa production.Cocoa needs proper hot and humid temperatures to grow.
Amidst all this GHANA a large scale producer of cocoa is setting a positive example in front of many" SO CALLED DEMOCRATIC "governments of the world.Eight lakh farmers of Ghana are associated with cocoa production. When it comes to harsh whether conditions, they are also bearing the same. But the difference is that their government has tight control over cocoa distribution. They have cocoa house set up by the government of Ghana which purchases cocoa at a reasonable price from cocoa farmers. It also sells it for the benifit of cocoa producers. This has long term posotive effects on their farmers as this policy, saves them from exploitation.Today cocoa farmers are doing various other businesses and not just dependent on cocoa production. This according to me is a golden example been set up by the government of Ghana and deserves appreciation across the globe. This welfare measure goes much beyond petty politics going on in many nations of the world.
It's indeed fascinating to see how Ghana's government is taking proactive measures to support its cocoa farmers amidst the challenges posed by climate change. By ensuring fair prices and providing support through initiatives like the cocoa house, they're setting a commendable example of governance that prioritizes the well-being of its citizens over political agendas. This approach not only benefits the farmers but also contributes to the stability and sustainability of cocoa production in the country. Such initiatives are definitely worth recognizing and can serve as inspiration for other cocoa-producing nations facing similar issues.
