Chanting, Meditation, and Psychology

Is mantra ke jaap se karam katenge. Rishton mein mithaas aegi. Blah blah. For most of us it's nonsense. Chanting mantras. And thereby getting somethimg good in life. But one thing I know for sure is that any kind of chanting is a meditation. It centers you. Grounds you. Improves the quality of mind. Gives you more control on your mind and you are empowered to be able to transform negative thoughts into positive ones. I was thinking the other day, that all this specific praying/mantra chanting reminds you specifically of what you want everyday. Instills in your subconscious that you want this and probably then you work for it otherwise as well, rather than against it. When we invest in something we are encouraged to invest more in right ? Read this psychology trick in a lot of places: If you want a big help from someone try asking for something small first.
What bad is chanting then? What if it has the tag of blind belief as there's no proof supporting it, If we know the intention we are doing it with?
I do it as a form of meditation. I do it to train my mind to think with awareness. I do it to ponder on my thoughts. To get to know myself. Why I do what I do. What I would like to do instead.




Isn't chanting the Surya Mantra in solar eclipse a way to remind ourselves that everything we see around us is due to the sun? I take the advantage of doing it like a gratitude meditation to enhance my mental health (as backed by science, o so I read in art of happiness by Dalai Lama). When I listen to the Vishnu strota and the music/melody pulls me towards it isn't it enjoying good music, which again is proven to enhance your brain? If I don't find any such mantra/aarti adds something I might as well skip it and not say it to make a god happy so that the forgive me for my sins and give me what i want without due work it takes. My point is, was prayer supposed to be like this? A symbolic way of enhancing our brain, being grateful for the blessings we get and hence enhance our happiness?
Meditation brings along with itself a newness of life and also best solutions to some challenges you are facing, if you let your thoughts flow freely while meditating.
