I answered "yes" for two reasons: first, because I had chosen the wrong path, and second because if I did what he said, he wouldn't jail me. I would be in jail if there were others in his position.

Accordingly, I agreed readily and told you that I would accept anything you asked of me. My aunt asked, what do you mean? I said I am a thief so I needed to thank you Aunt for everything. My uncle told me, so was your aunt with you, and I answered, yes, but don’t be harsh with her, 'that's not her fault'. My dear child, I am not punishing her and I cannot think of punishing her, she and my daughter are very dear to me. Listening to you made me feel relieved, and I was happy that only I was being punished.
