He was really angry and frustrated at everything he had gone through.. he was angry with the world and needed an escape.

The more he tried to run the more it got hard it wasn't until he realized that there was no need to run he was capable of winning, he was capable of achieving all he wanted to achieve and he was a strong then he stopped running.
