A New Beginning at last
"The asteroid is heading undeterred towards us. We're doomed," the newsreader quoted, her face ashen. The media wasted no time in spreading the gospel. "The end is here!" World leaders are backed into a corner and the question on everyone's minds- what will we do?
One night, upon his usual taking record of the stars hanging in the vast cosmos, Nobel prize winning Astro physicist Paul Maguire discovered something quite fascinating. His high tech telescope, befittingly called "The Eye of God" spotted a star like no other. Its beauty was next to that of Aphrodite's, at least to the eyes of an Astro physicist. I must share this with the world.
As he continued to observe this jewel of the universe he noticed that its heat readings rose steadily and it's speed kept going up like that of a car on a freeway. This celestial mass smashed through meteriods with no apologies. Its trajectory fixed, and its fury burned like the anger of God that must punish a stiff-necked people.
Dr Maguire made sure to check his calculations over and over again but the results remained the same. "This star...no this asteroid...is heading for earth."
"Doctor Discovers Disaster" was the headline of the newspapers. The world went into a panic. "So doctor, is there any chance that the threat to humanity could perhaps just collide with something in space and avoid hitting us" asked Catherine Sky, news anchor for CNN.
"Unfortunately no. The asteroid is heading undeterred towards us. We're doomed" the doctor softly uttered. "Unless!"
"Unless what doctor?" exclaimed Sky with a wide-eyed expression.
"Unless we unite as one people, one nation. We must put aside our differences and work together if we should have any chance of surviving this apocalypse" said the doctor.
The media quickly took his words and splashed them onto their front page. "Hope for Hunanity" was the message that resonated with the people of the world. No longer did tears of despair rain on our dreams, but our eyes were filled with hope that this threat to mankind would pass.
No longer was war a concern. Crime was practically non-existent and never before did the atmosphere feel more harmonious. The world had united in spirit. A new flag was born, mother earth in the colors of green for land and blue for our water bodies, with people, both male and female of different races holding hands, standing united on earth with a white background that brought life to this image. And our new nation was called Pangea.
The world was at peace. Though they were in the process of building a device to save their planet, they were still prepared for the worst. A life without regrets is the wish of every dying man, and so it was for the human race. Families grew stronger, racism disappeared, sexism vanished, poverty was no more more and it was good.
Dr Paul Maguire had died from pancreatic cancer five years after he had discovered man's end. The media had announced that the doctor had written a letter to be read to the world upon his death. And so the world listened, for they owed this man a great deal.
"To the great nation of Pangea I must say I am proud. We have evolved to a society of order and love. We are united because of our common goal to survive. And in this unity we have not only survived but we've thrived immensely. We can truly call ourselves mankind for in the first time in forever, our love is evident in our actions. The different races unite to run this single race of survival. Male and female are now truly one as God had planned. No blood has been spilt in a long time. And the air is filled with life. We no longer need to look to the stars for answers because we have each other. Despite my many praises to our new found way of life, this is not the true aim of my message. Mankind, I have deceived you. I lied. There is an asteroid, but it's not heading for earth directly. It will pass over earth from a safe distance but you will see it and it will be beautiful. I should know, I saw it first- LOL. Precisely on January 1, 2049 about in the late afternoon look up, and behold its beauty. Remember that that beauty could have been our destruction if its trajectory was slightly shifted. I know I did something wrong when I lied to you but I have no regrets doing so. Just look at us now! Do you regret what we've become? We have grown in leaps and bounds. To all of mankind, I am proud and I am glad I could share what I saw with the world."
