How a single word can bring a fight to an end...
It was nothing new as we indulged in fight again. If I ponder upon the reason, it would sound just trivial. But I guess, this is with all.
It was just a usual Saturday morning where in my partner and I were enjoying the usual weekend mood. I just got tea for both us and he arranged for sitting arrangement in the balcony, our favourite tea spot during weekends as we both have liberty of time!Enjoying the weather and the daily news, we got into a discussion with what to have in breakfast. Now, having breakfast ofcourse was not an issue, but what to eat suddenly became. My husband suggested, "Why don't you prepare, lentil pranthas?" Now there was nothing wrong with the suggestion but the time consuming process it would be was not going well with me. I told him, "I will have to boil the lentils, then cool it and then knead the dough, so it will take a bit of time." He listened and replied; it would not take that much time and being weekend we are not in hurry to eat so time is not an issue.
This reply just ignited my anger and our tete-tete soon turned into an argument. I am sure for obvious reasons the female counteparts could relate to me and male counterparts could relate to my husband!
As the temperature of our argument was soaring and my husband could well visualize the impact it would soon have on our weekend,he all of sudden said, "Get ready!" All of sudden, I was taken aback and looked at him questioningly.
He said, "It is weekend dear, let us not fight and head towards a breakfast date!"
Ofcourse, I took up the offer but also realized sometimes just a single word is just required to end an argument. I admire his quality of trying to be a peacemaker. Let us try not to bring our ego amidst the people whom we love and care for and find one magic word that can turn the situation!
