Margins of Error (part 2)
Chapter 1

14th February 2012.

“so you think he’ll like this dress? I feel like I’m doing just a little bit much” Alice muttered as she stood in front of the mirror admiring the yellow dress she had on for her date.
“I think you are doing less Alice c’mon, its valentine’s day, red is the colour of the day not whatever the hell you are putting on”
Sarah said as she stood up and walked towards Alice.
Sarah has been Alice’s best friend for 4years now and they were always known as the dynamic duo. They were inseparable and the only time you never saw them together was at work because Alice worked at a law firm while Sarah worked at a radio station but they were always together at cita’s bar where Alice worked part time. Their friendship was true and practically the only real thing Alice had in her life until Nnamdi came along. Nnamdi was a guy Alice met at cita’s bar while working last month and ever since, she had had a crush on him. Eventually, last week he was able to ask her out on valentine’s day and it had been her happiest day ever. She put in extra work just so she could look amazing for the date because she wasn’t about to loose the guy she liked so much over not looking good enough for their date.
She slowly turned towards Sarah and smiled.
“everyone knows red is the colour of the day so it’s going to be flying around but I want to stand out, I want to be the different girl in the room. You know, like a sunflower in the midst of a bucket weed farm. I want him to notice just how different I am from every other girl that’s going to be in the room. I want it to be a night he never forgets”
She gradually sat down on the bed and laid her back as she twiddled her hair. Her eyes were filled with romance and her head with dreams and imaginations of her future with Nnamdi, almost like she was married to him. She turned to the side and supported her head with her right hands as she continued.
“Sarah I want him, I want so bad like I’ve never wanted anything before in my life. He sees me when no one else does, he makes me so visible it’s almost like he doesn’t exist.
“c’mon, you know I see you”
Sarah jumped into the bed, hitting Alice’s legs as they both laughed out really hard.
“I know you see me and I love you for doing that you know I do, but you know what I mean. Guys never go for girls like me and you know that. They love girls like you, the slim 8figured shaped girls like you with all the assets. It takes a lot for a guy to like a plus size girl like me more or less a guy like Nnamdi. Damn is he handsome”
They both laughed out loud really hard and Sarah sat up and folded her legs on the bed
“Alice…”
“don’t tell me any bullshit about how what I just said is wrong and how I shouldn’t think less of myself that I’m beautiful just the way I am and what not. You know you just said those things because somehow you think it’ll make me feel better and I appreciate your efforts but just don’t”
Alice cuts in as she stood up and walked up to the mirror to look at her dress.
“what am I even doing?” she whispered to herself
You could see the happiness in her face gradually fading as an unpleasant sadness slowly made its way to her face.
“well I was gon say you were right”
Sarah muttered as she took the pillow on the bed to support her hands. Alice looked at her and they both busted into an uncontrollable laughter.
“you are the biggest asshole ever made”
“damn right I am, it suites me well”
Sarah stood up and sluggishly walked towards Alice and held her from the back.
“you are loved, you are special, you’re the best version of yourself and the best human ever. If Nnamdi doesn’t see that, then he is an even bigger asshole.”
“why you always got be so cute”
“cause I have the best friend in whole wide world and wouldn’t trade her for anything…well except for bundles, I’d definitely trade you for some Brazilian bundles”.
They both laughed out loud as Alice turned towards Sarah and hugged her tightly.
“I’d trade for you will smith too, just saying”
“no shit”
Alice gently withdrew herself from Sarah as she turned back to the mirror and smiled
“the best of the all black queens”
she whispered to herself.
“now let’s talk about shoes shall we?”
“Yes of course, I know just the best one for you”
Sarah uttered as walked toward the closet and Alice sluggishly followed
