The New Home
The New Home- Parashar Bezbaruah

The evening was quiet and pleasant. As I came out from my new home, I could hear the melody coming out from the leaves as the wind was blowing very gently and softly. The sound of leaves being swept away gently by the wind was soothing for my ears. A strong smell of flowers, both fresh and dried, filled up the environment. It was the perfect time for a lazy stroll. I could feel the trees whispering to each other, leaves gossiping with one another, birds playing with each other. It was a pleasant feeling, a very happy feeling.
So I set out for a very lazy walk to explore my new neighbourhood with no thoughts to occupy my relaxed mind. I was just enjoying the silence as well as the echoes of nature.
All of a sudden, my calm mind felt disturbed with a peculiar feeling. I felt as if someone was following me. I looked back over my shoulder, but I saw no one. I ignored it and started again on my adventures of exploring the wilderness of my surroundings. Then I again heard a sound; the sound of a foot stepping on a dry leaf in a very silent environment. I turned around but I saw no one. I got concerned and let out a voice scared as hell from my little throat- "Anybody there?"

As soon as I uttered those words, I felt a sharp pain across the back of my head. I froze on my tracks and dropped to the ground on my knees. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a small familiar outline of a boy running towards me. I wanted to focus clearly, but the pain prevented me from doing that. He was coming closer and closer and all I could hear was a familiar laughter. He tried to get a hold of me but out of self defence, I tried to throw a punch. As soon as I went for the blow, my fist collided with his face and he fell on the ground with a thud. I tried to get up but slowly my vision started to fade away and eventually everything went blank.

"Now do you know how I felt when you did the same thing to me?"- my twin brother asked me.

"I am really sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I was just throwing a stone towards your head. And what about the punch? Who punches that hard? It struck right beneath my jawbone. It was painful too." I said.

" Forget it. I just wanted you to be in my place so that you know how much pain I felt and I also realised how you felt the same. I am sorry brother. Lets not fight. Its time to go home. Our father will be there."- said my twin brother.

I gave him a hug and we both raced to our new home.

As we reached our destination, we saw our father standing. We walked past him. He didn't say anything. He was just standing there. There was sadness in his eyes we hated to see. I looked at my brother and he started to weep. Seeing his tears, I also couldn’t control my emotions and I started crying too.

But our father didn't notice us. He just stood there. Slowly he fell on his knees, put a bunch of flowers on our graves and whispered ," I love you my little kids. I still can't believe that the small game of throwing a stone on one another would take your lives. I just wish I could go back in time and stop the incident from happening. Your Mother is still in shock over your deaths . She keeps on crying holding your toys and clothes. We both miss you kids. I hate to see you abandoning us and resting in your graves. I have bought some flowers for you. I shall see you tomorrow my angels. Bye for now and rest in peace."

We both gave him a smile with tears flowing down our eyes and we both said at the same time- " We love you dad. We are sorry." But he couldn’t hear us.
As soon as he left, I looked at my brother and said , " I am sorry brother”.
He gave me a hug and said, ”It’s okay. Let’s get inside. It’s time to sleep in our new home.”
