Part 5
Chapter 21
[Mei]

I sat there—frozen. My biological parents are dead, my foster parents are dead, my grandfather left me with a responsibility and now I have to be protected by two highly trained assassins. I took a deep breath then stood up to interrupt their conversation.
'Miss Kamui, with all due respect, we can't run.' She stopped what she was doing and turned to look at me, 'Why would you say that?'
'It is because they are expecting that. We need to stay put, depending on who they send I'm sure you both can handle them, correct?' Shiro looked at me then back at his aunt, 'Makes sense. Running will make things difficult and give them the alert that we know their coming.'
'So what's your plan kids?' She sighed.
'We carry on as if nothing is going on. Shiro and I will go to school tomorrow, act as if we don't know what's coming and you will stay here. With you away from public eyes the enemy will feel they have a better chance at capturing me and killing Shiro–kun which in however way you look at it, is highly impossible.'
'Highly impossible huh? What makes you say that Lady Misaki?' She asked in a teasing soft tone.
'Please try not to act clueless. You know why.' A smile appeared on her face the she put all the supplies she was gathering back in their respective places and sat down.
'They won't be coming here tonight. With me on the run they will be looking for me. This is the last place they will expect me to come. You can go to sleep, I'll keep watch.' She patted my head as she said so. I stood up and headed for the bedroom.
This predicament is not something I was expecting to go through so soon, I mean fuck I'm only 17 years old! I got into bed and tears started streaming down my face. The image of my foster parents remains scattered everywhere flashed in my mind. May 23. My foster mother's birthday. And she had to die.
I sat up straight and wiped my tears. 'I knew this was going to happen'. I said to myself as I pulled the blankets and went to sleep.

Chapter 22
[Shiro]

Things are getting out of hand. I've had to deal with killing people for the AOA since I was twelve, I've been under their protection ever since but now, the organization itself is after me and its founder all for weapons that are going to gain the highest bidder ultimate control over the world.
The thought crossed my mind as I sat on the couch watching TV with my aunt.
'What's wrong?' She asked me with a smile.
'Everything,' I replied.
'Come on. This should be nothing. I trained you to deal with such things, don't go weak on me, I'd be disappointed.' Her tone went low and those words sent a shiver down my spine.
'Quick question.' I said turning to face her.
'Yes?'
'Why would the world's most dangerous woman, agree with the plan of a mid-class assassin and a rich girl who in no way have experience about such a situation?'
'I have no choice. What Lady Misaki says..... I do.' I expected a sad expression on her face after that statement — nothing. Just a smile, a smile of an obedient servant.
'What the hell?!' I frowned as I said so.
'Let me explain. Lady Mei Misaki is the granddaughter of Lord Eichiro Misaki, who in this age of technological, territorial disorder in the world, was the Emperor of Japan. Lord Eichiro was my mentor. Chizuro and I were his students. The Misaki family are half demon.'
I chuckled.
'Oh sweety, this isn't like the anime you watch — this is real.' Her expression changed and her tone was low and ominous..... she was serious.
'It all goes back to the San Goku era. Wars were ending clans and the Misaki's had to protect themselves and the only way to do that was to make a deal with an oni named Shima. Shima was the demon of death and wanted nothing but death. Even as a demon of death, she fell in love with the head of the Misaki family, Goken Misaki. Things turned when they expected her to want a big sacrifice but all she wanted was Goken. Goken stayed when the clan left and two years later he brought back a child, a baby girl named Sugita. She was a half breed. Growing up, Sugita became a strong warrior and every clan feared her. Her prowess made her Empress of Japan until the day she was assassinated. Since then, the Misaki family has ruled Japan from the shadows so no other Emperor or Empress will be assassinated,' she sighed, 'but it seems they can't stop being assassinated, even in the shadows.
So there you have it. The Misaki's are dangerous half demon rulers that are not immortal...... but hard to kill.'
I looked at the roof, trying to process what my aunt just said and finally I had my answer, 'Just a bunch of bullshit!' I looked at her in a stupid way, 'Yeah, I've watched far better anime with storylines that make sense.' I said in a sarcastic tone
'Suit yourself. Whether you believe me or not that's up to you. But trust me, its all real, you'll see soon enough.'
'So what? They have powers and stuff? I asked with a chuckle.
'No. Their abilities are ten times that of a normal human. Their ten times faster, ten times stronger and ten times smarter yet you can never see that. Mei is more of a killing machine than you, me and even the entire AOA. She's different though, she can't stand blood.'
Is that why she vomited in the car and why she couldn't move when I fought the Hofuru No Yoru, I see.
All this sounds way too bogus but since its coming from my aunt, the one person who doesn't joke when she talks, its kind of hard to overlook what she says. I stood up, said goodnight and went to the spare bedroom. This might be the last time I'll ever have a peaceful sleep.
