American Dream
If you havent watched the classic dark comedy starring Martin Lawrence and Eddie murphy as Claude and Ray, then you are missing out on Life. . This is a photo of Martin Lawrence as he ages in the film scarfing down "white only" pie. As painful as it may appear to watch this, its actually quite histerical. It also portays a perfect image of the American Dream throughout time.

This scene starts out with someone placing the pie in the window to cool. Have you ever been in a situation as a child where you wanted something and your parent said no or wait? You cried and almost tried to force your parent to give you what you want and still it never went your way. That thing may have been something you dreamed and wished for. Most people like me who are older pray for something and wonder why you still havent got what you prayed for. Your parents knew what was best for you at the best time.

As Americans what we see on Tv gives us the best image of the American dream. You work so hard for your dream to come to fruition but only to realize once you get it, the tempature is not right. Bills and student debt for example. Living comes with consequences. When bullets whistle by your head and feet your sense of life is at a pivot point. Claude was determined to sacrifice his life for this pie burning his tongue dodging bullets only to get a taste. If you watch the movie that satisfaction he gets from stealing this pie was temporary., as he was punished shortly after.

Fortunately for dream chasers when you fall our wounds heal themselves. Through out time the identity of the American dream has changed more than anything. The thing about a dream is it has confusing circumstances and can twist and turn you into situations only your imagination can explain.

We witness Claude and Rays first attraction to this pie at a "white only" diner early on in the film. Fast foward, he has now aged and due to the situation related to being falsely imprisoned for years he's finally able to get this pie. Not the prettiest site but it was triumphant. In the first scene the manager of the diner pulls out a shotgun, aims it at Claude and Ray asking "How about I turn yall into n**** pie," This was a dark time for African Americans in 1932s society.

My conclusion is this don't let the times stop you from believing in your dreams. Yes you can get your pie but if you have to wait that's fine. When the opportunity presents itself attack it like Claude attacks his pie.
