The cake that changed a life
When Clementine was 5 she once visited her neighbo to borrow a package of salt. She was invited inside and followed the house owner in the kitchen, where his wife was decorating the most marvelous cake Clementine had ever seen. It was a pastel green cake with mint and chocolate flavor. With pastel colored piped cream around and on the cake and a few cherries on the top. The older woman noticed her interest but didn't said anything. She probably couldnt imagine that her cake would inflame a passion in this little girl, that would latter make her one of the best conditors of the country. That day Clementine knew one day she would own a bakery and she would make cakes as beautiful as the mint cake. She never told anybody anything and kept her dream and decision by herself. Time went on, years passed by. Clementine grew up, but she never forgot that cake. She never baked, never decorated a cake, but she used to go to the library and study  recepie books there. She turned 17 when in school teachers invited her to take part in a baking contest. At first Clementine didn't want. She still wanted to hide her interest in baking from anybody. She was afraid she would not be successful and everybody would laugh at her. She was afraid that nobody would want to look at them or that her parents would be angry. But after a friend resisted Clementine agreed. She went again to the library took one of the books. Than at home she studied every step carefully and finally only cracked the first egg. She didn't knew how long she spent that day in the citchen. Her parents and siblings were not at home, the went to visit an aunt. It was when the returned at around 23 o clock in the evening that Clementine was still piping the cream on her cake with such an precision most bakers would be jealous of. Of course everybody was mind blown and amazed,  but Clementine stayed as calm and unimpressed as she was. She didn't said anything. It was her secret talent and she wanted to keep it secret, but the next day turned to be the most dissapointing day in her life. She was able to transport the cake into her school, without and complications and put in on her table. The judge came into the room and started to observe the cakes he went from one table to another. Finally he stoped infront of Clementine cake. When she opened the package there was the most perfect mint chocolate cake. With highly precisely piped cream and a few shining cherries.
"Where did you bought this cake?"
"Sir, it's my own. I made it yesterday."
"Dont lie to me. You are disqualified"
He just toke her cake and smashed it against the floor.
Clementine stayed calm. She didn't cried or sayed anything. Of course deep inside she was deep sadned but she always knew that nobody would appreciate her talent and interest. So when she returned home and her parents asked how it gone. She just said it was fine and smiled. Time went on and everybody soon forgot about it. Clementine finished school, moved out of their parents house. She started to study economy but she hated it. It was during her second semester that she met Calvin. A really cute nice guy. Who started to care for her and take her out. It was after the already dated for several months, when Calvin asked her about her biggest dream and that was the first time Clementine tell anybody  about her biggest childhood desire.
"I dream of opening up my own bakery or sweetshop."
"That's such a lovely dream. Do you bake?"
That evening Clementine told Calvin everything and really made him emotional with her story. After he went home, he was not able to sleep the whole night. He was thinking on how to help Clementine to realizate her dream and hoe to encourage her to bake again.
It toke him several days and he got the right idea, when he was talking to one of his neighbors. A nurse from a kindergarden. She told him, that her children in nursery want to bake during the Christmas Season, but she was afraid, as she never baked anything and didn't knew how to do it with children. Calvin told her he knew a young girl who can make fabulous cakes and at the same time loves small children and is experienced in the care of children. Calvin gave that nurse Clementines number. But he didn't said Clementine, it was his idea. She called him later that evening and told him in big excitement about the project and how much she would love to do it. Clementine had remembered the time she saw the first time someone baking a cake. Maybe she would never fullfil her childhood dream, but maybe one of those children would.
Later this two weeks turned out to be two most fabulous weeks. The children were more than happy. Especially they loved the chocolate ganache and the sprinkles. And Clementine was happy to spend the time with them. Then on the last day the children asked her also to decorate a cookie like a real professional would do it. Clementine decided to make a little unicorn. She didn't tried to be especially precisely or artful. Just tried to make it as colorful and bright as a kid would love it. When she finished everyone was clapping. They said they have never seen something so cute and beautiful. Than on Christmas it turned out, that Calvin's mum had seriously injured her hip and fell in deep depression. At first Clementine wasn't sure, if a cake would be the best cure, but she still made one. The chocolate mint one. Calvin himself would never believe his girlfriend made the cake if he would not watch her making it. Clementine had not seen Calvin's mother before, but already was really surprised, when she found out, his mother lived in the house next to her childhood house and got even more surprised, when the furnituring was exactly the same as she remembered it when she was little. For a moment she started to doubt, but when she finally saw the sick woman she got absolutely clear. Calvin's mother was that one woman that once inspired her. That one woman that inflamed her passion and enlighted he biggest dream.
"Why haven't you told me?"
"What haven't I told you?"
"That your mom is a conditor"
"I thought it wouldn't matter."
Clementine didn't said anything. She just stared at the sick lady the same way she stared at her when she was little. It was hard for her to not get emotional. She even thought about running aways, but Calvin toke her hand. The went into the room together. At first the older lady didn't seem to recognize Clementine. Calvin introduced her. Said it's his girlfriend and that they know each other for a bit more than seven months. He also said, that Clementine is a really good baker. When he said that words. The eyes of his mother lightened up.
"She's a baker?"
"Yes. She is almost as good as you."
When his mother looked at the cake she started smiling.
"Chocoloate mint. That's my favourite flavor. The paste colors are really beautiful and the wiping is actually amazing. Who did teach you?"
"I teached  myself. Although there was once a woman, when I was a kid. She was my neighbor and I once visited her to borrow a package of salt."
"You are Clementine? Aren't you? I always knew you would be an amazing conditor one day."
"How?"
"When you first came that day. I noticed the way you was looking at what I was doing. I noticed the curiosity and interest. The excitement. I saw your shing eyes. Something in the eyes said me you have a lot of hidden talent. I was thinking about teaching you, but I thought it would be better to wait, until you would no longer be afraid to reveal your talent and to be sure in your strength and ability, dear. I also saw you in the library. I saw how you read and studied the recepies books. I never interrupted you, because I  knew your confidence needs time. I also was there the day you participated in the school challenge. I was the second judge. I imideatly knew you made the cake yourself. But I didn't said anything, cause I knew how important it is to be able to face ciritc, judgment and unappreciation. What is your biggest dream, dear? "
"I want to open up my own bakery or sweet shop. I want to share happiness with other people by making their life a little bit sweeter."
"You will fullfil your dream. I am sure. I am sure, you are ready right now, more than ever and I want to help you to fulfill your dream. You see now with this injury I will not be able to stand anymore for long time in the kitchen or lift up heavy packages of flour and do the physical work. This Christmas I want to give you my bakery as a gift."
"Mrs. That's to much. How can I accept a present like this?"
"Dear, you deserve it."
"Baby, don't say no. Please!"
Clementine felt too overwhelmed to make a decision.
"I don't want to sell this bakery to someone else. My biggest dream is, that you will keep care of it and later spend the most precious moments with my grandkids there."
Clementine was not able resist anymore. She agreed and the moment Calvin's mum kissed her hand, she got as emotional as she never got. For sure her only time in life she lost her calmness and Tranquillity. But it was also one the most happiest moments in life. One of the moments she waited for that long. Calvin's mum recovered and was able to join Calvin's and Clementines wedding in March of the following year. While Clementine gave up her study and started to work full time in her shop. They expect their first baby in July.
