A Story of Self-worth
One-day a student went to his teacher and asked him " Teacher, I'm confused. why do we need to study so hard or work our ass off, really why. can't we just free ourselves from these worries.Why do people have high ambitions but I don't. The teacher smiled and replied," I'll tell you. But first do as I say". The teacher gave the child a stone and asked him to take it to the market. " you stand by the stone, and if anyone asks you anything, just show two fingers. " The boy couldn't understand anything but did as told. He went to the market with the stone. After a while, a lady reached him and asked" How much is it? " The boy showed two fingers to the lady. Then the lady said, " Oh, it's ₹20, fine I shall buy it. Give it to me" . The boy was shocked. He ran to his teacher that instant and told him the story. " That woman wants to buy a stone, is she crazy.. What should I do teacher, shall I sell it." The teacher replied, No wait, Now take this stone to the museum where they exhibits different stones and do the same. The boy now visited the museum and did the same. This time, when he showed the two fingers, the museum man said," It's a good deal. I'll give you ₹20,000 for this stone. Give it to me." The boy couldn't believe his ears. He at once ran to his teacher and narrated the story again. The teacher said, now for the last time, go to the gemologist,those who collects precious stones. The boy did so, and upon asking the price, the boy again showed his two fingers. This time it was huge. The gemologist said, it's a rare and precious stone. So, I shall give you ₹2 lakhs. The boy almost blanked out. He understood that it was really a precious stone. He ran to his teacher once again and asked him . The teacher smiled at him and said, now you know that it's not a simple stone as you thought by its looks. Well the same goes for life. In different stages of Life, you'll meet different peoples who will give you different values. Just like the stone, some may invest ₹20 while some upto ₹ 2 lakhs on you.
