Wishful Illusion
A smile was plastered on her lips when she holds her parent's hands.

"Thank you for being with me."

Her happiness couldn't match what she's feeling right now because ever since she finds out she has a step-sister her life started to mess up.

A no ever-ending fight from her parents, a feeling of betrayal from her father, a lost feeling from a daughter's heart, and a cowardness to face the reality.

"Mom! I want this, can I have it?" She was holding an expensive bag from a well-known designer.

"Of course, you can get whatever you want." She said it with no hesitation seeing her daughter's giggling smile

"Daddy, can we please go for a vacation? I know you're busy but-- I want to be with you." She was cutely pouting at her dad trying to win him.

"You can also bring my sister, I guess we could talk about something." It was her last card to make him say yes, and she did.

It was August 25, her birthday. Everyone was there with her celebrating the most important event of her life.

And on that unexpected day, her longtime partner walks towards her...

And slowly whisper, " Let's create more memories together for the next years, the next chapter of our lives, and until our hair turns grey. I love you, will you marry me?"

She nodded her head answering his question while her hands were shaking and a small sobbed from her to express her uncontrollable feelings towards a majestic night.

But then...

A snap of reality from her mother's eyes happened.

Her daughter was not there with her.

She finds herself in a white ceiling wearing a white robe in a hospital.

Her eyes roamed around in the room finding her daughter but the only person was there was her husband with his daughter.

"Where is my daughter?" She asked wearily, not understanding what is happening.

Her stepdaughter wiped the tears slid on her cheeks making her confused more about what is happening.

"Where is my daughter!?" She started shouting, feeling so frustrated, and losing her mind with unknown questions.

"Cassandra, our daughter is already dead." Her husband said, an almost broken voice of him.

"No! You're a liar! My daughter is alive!" She was shouting hysterically and the doctors were already holding her arms.

"She was with me! She is getting married! I saw it. We... We were happy.." Her voice broke when she's saying the last words.

Memories flashed on her mind, a memory of her and her daughter fighting on a phone. Her daughter was almost begging her to attend her volleyball match but she chose to hang up on her.

A scene with her husband fighting, shouting, and frustratedly crying in front of her daughter who just came home holding a certificate in her hands.

She cried out loudly. For the past months, they have never thought about what their daughter really felt.

She was in pain, so do was her husband. But they never thought how much broke their daughter was than them.

And now it was too late... Too late for regrets and there sorry because no matter how or what they do, they will never get back the life of their daughter who committed suicide on the day of her birthday.

What she saw was only a wishful illusion, that she could have given to her daughter when she was still alive.

(August 25)

She was excited preparing for her birthday party. She chose to celebrate her birthday on the beach because for the past few months everything was so toxic and messed up, she thinks a beach with calming waves and cold winds might help them breathe out a little.

She wants everything to be done perfectly and nicely since she only invites the people who are close to her heart. Her mother, father, stepsister, and her boyfriend for three years.

She was there, smiling and feeling the cold winds that caressed her skin.

But no one came.

Her beautiful smile vanishes and turns to disappointment and sadness. It was supposed to be a beautiful night but seems like no one remembered.

Her mother and her father aren't answering their phone. They never contact her to greet her or tell her if they're coming or not.

Her sister was nowhere to be found.

And what broke her more was, a picture of her boyfriend kissing someone else in a bar.

She was so broken and tired. She'd lost hope that someday everything was going to be alright. She must have been blind to see the reality. A reality that no one could ever fix.

She cried herself out. Leaving all the hopes and the courage to keep going. She did her very best already even if it kills her waking up in the morning with loud noises from her parents fighting, looking at her sister that keeps reminding her of the betrayal of her father and her relationship with her partner slowly drifting apart.

She left out a heavy sigh and whispers...

"If reincarnation does really exist, please be good to me on my next life."

That night, a body on the beach of a girl was found dead. She committed suicide.
