Why do we rely on Artificial Intelligence so much?

Before we indulge selves in understanding our dependence on AI. We need to first understand the meaning of AI, why did we created a machine that can understand and make decision with such accuracy and then us Humans hated it for taking those jobs from us.
During this past decade or so we’ve accomplished so much that we are now talking about actually making Space Tourism a reality, Projects like Virgin “Hyperloop”, car manufacturing companies like “Tesla” known for its powerful electric batteries and smart AI that can drive your car. In all of these sectors one key thing which is heavily in focus is the AI which is getting more powerful, better, efficient and cost effective. Companies such as Amazon, Google have been developing and making their AI fast, Better and easy to operate. AI is now used everywhere from your Smart Tv to your Car to the daily social media platform we use. During the initial years it was made to make our work easy but as the years went by, we have turned this into a means of making profits with little or no worry of how it will be used by countries, people for their own benefit.
Well before going much deeper and understand the big WHY. Let’s understand the what defines an AI. From your google assistant, to the google search algorithms is an AI. Today AI is known as “Narrow AI” which is designed to perform a narrow task could be anything from Facial Recognition to Solving equations. Though it is a specific AI designed to perform specific tasks so well that it might outperform humans in that specific task. No matter how good it sounds but the continuous research and development in Ai is to make it more powerful and to make it more like a Strong AI. Meaning an Ai designed to perform every “Cognitive Task” which possibly any human being could perform. Well that may be years or even centuries to create a “Superintelligence”.
Most of our time today consists of “On-Screen” which literally translate to the time we were using either of these electronic gadgets. Now, we believe or at least used to that we control the machine, we control the outcome and we do it because it makes our work easy but irony being, we are controlled by AI. We have read so many articles talking about the benefits of AI and its disadvantages the list goes on but today we are not talking about this we are going to understand the big WHY?
To understand the reliance of us humans on AI we have to look through the perspectives of three people
· The Establishment
· The Government
· The People
Now, you must be confused or not convinced but just hang on till the end and I can assure you will attest have an opinion if nothing else.
The Establishment
So, these are the companies which are heavily relying on AI and thus want to make them more powerful to make it do more of the task it was doing earlier. Now there is a primary reason for that which is the “Profit” but there is more to it than that which is dominating the very market and redefining the structure of the market so much so that they would be dictating the terms and producing at a price which they want to. Still not convinced read the market policy and business strategy of companies like Amazon, Google, Facebook, Twitter the list goes on. They ae using and relying on AI because its “Cost Effective”, Easy, to manipulate, No human Feelings and no liability.
The Government
Perhaps I would just sum it up in one word “Control”. But there is more to it then that there is n issue of terrorism, to catch criminals, to watch and surveillance. To maintain the order and society. But these are the things you see, hear and read everywhere what you don’t see are the dark side of it which we have seen recently and still going on in China where they are using this software to systematically detect, prison and destroy a minority because of their religion. “Ethnic Cleansing” they say. so why does govt. rely on AI so much as I said before to control.
The People
You guessed it right It’s us Humans we are confined into this digital space so much that we don’t want to get out of it. It’s manipulating us, dividing us, polarizing us, making us angry, depressed, and we still use it. Irony is that I’m also writing this on a laptop. Our tragedy is that we are the one who help make this Ai better make things Automated and in turn we are then left with nothing but to search for other work.
Conclusion
I don’t think we are getting away with using the AI for these little things and current Pandemic made it worse than before as this forced the companies which were hesitant of using advance technology are looking for these options to continue their operations. What we can do is make our lives better by not over relying on machines and perhaps the future will tell us what and how of everything.
