The mouse crept through the silent house in search of its nightly meal. Its ears pricked at the scream, causing it to stand on its hind legs to spot the source. When the body came crashing down, it scampered away with its tiny heart beating fiercely. And away it scampered down the hallway floor. As it did it squeeked thinking "What a horrible fright! To stumble upon such a sight!"
The loud steps it heard after rounding the corner into the warm laundryroom was just as loud.
A"Boom Boom Boom Boom" was what it heard coming steady towards it. It was fright. But having been used to big sounds in the outside, it wasn't deterred so it stayed where it was.
Then it heard some strange utterances from higher up coming into the house.
"Would you not have everyone in the town know you just caught something you weren't supposed to ? Geez..."
"Sorry boss, i didn't realize we was being watched.
"Of course we're being watched...see all of this here is illegal." He pointed to the bodies around them.
"Oh. Boy they could catch a pretty penny."
"But not if we don't hurry with these bags. Come on."
The mouse ran back and forth. The mouse had heard these strange utterances before. And they always somehow preceded trouble. The mouse looked back into the small hole that his family had taken refuge in two nights prior. There had been some wedges of cheese hoarded in the back store room of the old farm. The father mouse knew that because he had scouted the old farm previously. Just then a young member joined him. "Another tussle with the big bad cat, poppa?"
